Meanwhile, Honda Philippines, Inc. also received a gold award for its partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross involving the donation of 104 motorcycles and construction supplies to Catanduanes residents whose homes have been devastated by super typhoons.
HCPI’s recognition in the 5th Driven to Serve awards are for the following projects:
- Bantay Baterya and Bantay Langis (Environment) – Gold Award
- Assistance to Medical Frontliners during the Pandemic (COVID-19 Response) – Silver Award
- Teen Smart: Road Safety for Teens (Road Safety) – Silver Award
Teen Smart
The project aims to develop the youth’s consciousness on road safety and strengthen their sense of responsibility in reducing road accidents as pedestrians and future drivers.
The Teen Smart program currently implemented is a partnership among Honda Cars Philippines, Sta. Rosa Department of Education, Sta. Rosa Local Government and the Honda Safety Driving Center to provide interactive seminar workshops for all public senior high schools in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The workshops that started in 2019 cover practical road safety topics such as traffic rules and regulations, messages from vehicles, road users physical / mental conditions, characteristics of vehicles, anticipation of traffic and environmental condition. HCPI embarked on the program since 2004 and has engaged with different partners to reach more youth who are among the most vulnerable in road accidents.
Assistance to Medical Frontliners during the Pandemic
The project aims to support medical frontliners in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. This was also Honda’s way of showing gratitude and appreciation to them for their utmost dedication and much needed service at such a dark time. Soon after the pandemic shocked the country in March 2020, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. lent out 15 cars to medical frontliners in Laguna. Assistance continued in August 2020 with 18 cars lent to frontliners of various medical facilities in Laguna and Cavite. These times were the most challenging because of so much unknown information about the pandemic then and transportation was particularly difficult. Up until May 2021, HCPI continued to offer transportation assistance to medical frontliners.
Along with this, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. supported frontliners by conducting a “Donation Drive” in hospitals in Laguna last September 2021. Donations included personal protective equipment and food packs. Likewise, HCPI, through the Modern-Day Heroes program, offered exclusive service deals for frontliners to honor and appreciate them.
Bantay Baterya and Bantay Langis
The recycling project aims to lessen land and water pollution through the proper disposal of hazardous lead-acid batteries and used oils. The project is implemented with HCPI Suppliers and Dealers, and integrated in the EMS programs in order to improve the environmental footprint consistently. Program partners are ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Oriental – Motolite Marketing Corporation, and Genetron International Marketing.
Throughout the 15 years of Bantay Baterya partnership since 2006, HCPI and its partners recycled 7,028 pieces of used lead acid batteries worth PHP 1,820,453. While for Bantay Langis, a total of 16,104 liters of used oil were already collected and recycled since the program started in 2017. Aside from conserving resources, landfill space and energy, as well as avoiding further land and water contamination, funds generated from the recycling of hazardous wastes are used in supporting various environmental projects of Bantay Kalikasan such as the protection and preservation La Mesa Watershed and maintenance of La Mesa Eco Park.
