Honda unveils new City and Brio

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) unveiled last Thursday the new City and Brio at the Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall. On its last day today, Sunday, the four-day event introduced the refreshed version of two of the bestselling Honda models in the country. The event was simultaneously streamed via HCPI’s official Facebook page.

The new City

The new City gets even more sporty and stylish with its new RS design grille with RS emblem and new front and rear bumper with carbon-wrapped lower molding (RS) that gives the vehicle a sleeker, wider look. LED DRLs and fog lights (LED for RS and Halogen for V) are available on all variants, while LED headlights are on the RS. All these are supported by Headlight Auto On/Off function with Auto Off Timer 15 seconds after engine turns off—standard across all variants.

The new City still highlights its distinctive horizontal character lines that give the vehicle its sporty attitude while exuding elegance. The model features side mirror signal lights (RS and V), a new side sill garnish in the RS. The model also boasts of new sporty 16-inch alloy wheels (Black Cut for RS and Silver Cut for V), while S and E variants get 15-inch wheels (Silver Paint Alloy for S and steel with cover for E).

At the back, the refreshed City presents a new rear bumper with a sporty carbon-wrapped diffuser. It keeps its LED taillights and LED high-mount stop lamp, including the high-gloss black trunk spoiler (RS).

Inside, the fifth-generation City emphasizes a plush, premium, functional, and spacious cabin. It also has better visibility, thanks to its update in the windshield shape that minimizes blind spots. The RS now gets full leather seats and sport pedals. Its interior accents also sport new designs with dark red front panel garnish and high-gloss black interior accents for the RS, and high-gloss black front panel garnish and silver interior accents for the V.

The City is now equipped with a new 4.2-inch full-color TFT instrument panel with red ambient light (RS), and 4.2-inch full-color TFT gauges with white and green ambient light for the rest of the variants. An 8-inch touchscreen (RS, V, and S) now comes with improved LCD display and better reverse camera resolution, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now made wireless for RS, V, and S.

Powering the new City is the tried-and-tested 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine mated to a CVT to deliver high fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and fun-to-drive performance. It remains the most powerful engine in its segment with a maximum output of 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. The new City achieved fuel economy ratings of 22.2 kilometers per liter for all variants based on the latest UN-R101 Fuel Economy Testing for highway driving conditions. The test was conducted under a controlled environment in Tochigi, Japan. 

In line with Honda’s global goal of realizing zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050, all variants of the new City now comes with Honda SENSING – an advanced driver-assist safety technology with features that provide comprehensive protection by giving warnings and automatically taking action to reduce the risk of accidents.

Honda SENSING safety features include:

  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
  • Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW)

More safety features include four airbags for all grades, and side curtain airbags for the RS. The new City also has a new Rear Seat Reminder and new Walk Away Auto Door Lock (RS and V variants). The new City has been awarded a 5-star rating in the latest ASEAN NCAP testing.

Customers who would like to personalize or upgrade after purchasing their new City may avail of the following Honda Genuine Accessories: Front Accent Garnish, LED Fog Lights (for S and E variants), Trunk Tray, and Door Visor. Also available are 16x6J Alloy Wheel, Front Under Spoiler, Side Under Spoiler, Trunk Spoiler (Wing), and Rear Under Spoiler, all developed under Honda’s Modulo brand. Customers have the option to purchase these accessories individually or as a package for additional savings.

The new Brio

The Brio, introduced in the Philippine market in 2014, has captured the hearts of over 30,000 customers to date. With its strong following and numerous awards, the Brio stands out in its segment with its sporty small hatchback design, strong yet fuel-efficient engine, advanced features, and superior ride comfort. Now on its second generation, this bestselling hatchback gets more enhancements to cater to the diverse needs of first-time or alternative car buyers who want style, comfort, and performance, without compromising on exceptional value and long-term reliability.

The new Brio is now made even more stylish, thanks to its new piano black RS Design grille that features a new design pattern with bigger grille opening. This is complemented with LED headlights (RS), new LED fog lights and fog light garnish (RS), and LED DRLs (RS and V variants). Crystal black door mirrors with power folding feature and RS Design side sill lower garnish are standard on the RS.

At the back, there is a tailgate spoiler and RS Design rear bumper lower garnish and tail lights in the RS variants. The new Brio rolls on updated 14-inch alloy wheels (V), 14-inch steel with cover (S), and 15-inch RS Design alloy wheels (RS).

Inside, the Brio now features black fabric seats with red accents for both RS variants. Speed Sensing Auto Door Locks (RS, and V) and power windows with Auto Up/Down for driver’s window are available across all variants. It’s also equipped with a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen across all variants, made even more user-friendly with the new illuminated audio controls in the RS and V. Connectivity for the RS Black Top, RS, and V variants is easy with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB Port, AM/FM, Android Smartphone Mirroring, with 6-speaker audio set up inclusive of additional two tweeters for the RS variants, and 4-speaker audio set up for V and S for an exhilarating audio experience.

The new Brio retains its 1.2-liter 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine that produces a maximum power of 90 ps at 6,000 rpm and 119 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm, mated to a CVT. The engine and transmission combined provide a smooth, powerful acceleration for its class, and optimum fuel economy for Honda’s small hatchback. A 5-speed manual transmission is available in the 1.2 S MT variant.

In terms of safety, the new Brio is equipped with above-class active and passive vehicle safety features. Honda’s G-CON technology enhances impact absorption for added protection of passengers in the event of a collision. All variants of the new Brio still get dual front airbags and ABS with Electronic Brake-Force Distribution as standard, while rear parking sensors are now available across all variants.
