#GoWithMore safety: GWM TANK 500 HEV earns 5-star ANCAP safety rating

GWM continues to scale for new heights in vehicle safety as the GWM TANK 500 HEV receives a maximum 5-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), adding to the brand’s recent history of securing the best possible ANCAP result for new models being introduced into the Australia and New Zealand region. Following the previous rating of GWM TANK 300, this enhances GWM’s reputation for having a “five-star family” of vehicles.

The ANCAP is a car safety performance assessment program based in Australia that specializes in crash testing vehicles and conducts performance assessments on safety features and technologies.

Allowing the GWM TANK 500 HEV to receive such achievement is its high-strength steel and high-safety-grade body structure. This is combined with Level-2 Advanced Driver-Assist Systems (ADAS) such as Lane-Keeping Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking (with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection), Front Cross-Traffic Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Assist. All that allows the GWM TANK 500 to protect the safety of its occupants, as well as other road users.

In the different assessment categories, the GWM TANK 500 HEV received the following scores, further solidifying the brand’s testament to safety:

  • Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) – 85% or 34.38 out of 40 points
  • Child Occupant Protection (COP) – 93% or 46.00 out of 49 points
  • Vulnerable Road User Protection (VRUP) – 81% or 51.53 out of 63 points
  • Safety Assist – 84% or 15.28 out of 18 points

In addition, the GWM TANK 500 HEV received the maximum number of points possible in the side impact tests. On the other hand, its 93% score in the Child Occupant Protection assessment is the highest ever given to any vehicle to date by the ANCAP under its 2023-2025 protocols. This high score was assisted by the presence and function of a direct Child Presence Detection (CPD) system.

Under such rigorous standards, the GWM TANK 500 HEV not only continues GWM’s full-range five-star safety record but also demonstrates the company’s commitment to user safety. GWM is dedicated to providing a worry-free travel experience for global users. This achievement further highlights GWM’s leading position and relentless efforts in the field of automotive safety.

GWM has consistently received 5-star safety ratings from the ANCAP since 2017 when the GWM HAVAL H2 received such. This was followed in 2021 by the GWM HAVAL H6 and HAVAL Jolion, and GWM POER; in 2022 by the GWM TANK 300; and in 2023 by the ORA 03.

GWM TANK has been launched in more than 30 countries and regions around the world, with overseas sales accounting for more than 20%. In 2023, global cumulative sales of GWM TANK exceeded 160,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 31%. The GWM TANK 300 ranked second in the world’s rugged off-road sales and became the only rugged off-road vehicle to win the Australian Carsales award for “Car of the Year”. The GWM TANK 500 has become a high-end rising star in key global off-road markets and has become a popular model for official purchase in many overseas countries and regions.
