It’s not really surprising that Google has decided to shutter its old photo service Picasa. It hasn’t really been updated recently. Google has opted to focus its photo-related efforts to Google Photos.
Now, if you still kept to using Picasa and decide it’s finally time to move to Google Photos, you won’t have to worry about photo migration. Your albums are already there. But if that isn’t a route you want to take, you have until May 1st to get all your albums and your associated tags, comments, and captions.
Support ends earlier for the desktop version of Picasa. Google plans to stop supporting the app by March 15th. You’ll be able to access your old files but you won’t be able to upload new content there.
With this final nail on Picasa’s coffin, maybe it is really time for you to say goodbye to it, too. Make that leap to Google Photos or Flickr or whatever else photo service you deem fits your needs.
