After a month of leaks and beta testing, Google is finally ready to launch its new file manager app, Files Go.
The move comes after Google’s data-saving app Datally was launched last week. Both are part and parcel of Google’s new Android Go initiative, a push to deliver the purest Android experience to a wider audience.
The file manager enables users to free up space on their phone in the most optimal way possible. Google estimates that the average user can save up to 1GB of space every month.
Unlike other file cleaning apps, Files Go specifies what it deletes according to what it detects. The app can detect duplicate files, unused apps, large files, low resolution videos, and memes. These files can then be reviewed and deleted according to the user’s preference.
Additionally, Files Go can organize your files according to file type and source. It can also connect to your Google Drive for better safe keeping.
Further, files can be transferred offline from smartphone to smartphone. Files Go promises encrypted transfers of up to 125Mbps.
Google Files Go is now available on the Google Play Store for free. It only takes up 6MB of internal storage and can run on phones with as low as 512MB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop
