Google launches Nexus 5X and 6P phones

Every year, we get treated to amazing flagship phones that push the limits of cutting edge in technology. This year, we’ve seen a wide variety of contenders, including the iPhone 6s, the Samsung Galaxy S6, and the LG G4. As much as we love our flagships, we also anticipate our annual breathers from the all-out flagship war, the Google Nexus phones. Relative to the big players in the industry, the Nexus phones are silent players. Not many people seek out or even know these phones, but those who do herald it for its down-to-earth software approach. It represents the purest and most vanilla Android experience, untainted by bloatware and brand interference. Recently, Google launched their dark horse entrants for the year–the Google Nexus 5X and 6P.

The Google Nexus 5X is a product of LG’s engineering. The 5.2-inch phone enjoys an FHD 1080p display, slightly bigger than the average smartphone. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core chip. It’s certainly not carrying the stronger Snapdragon 810, but it’s bounds away from the Google Nexus 5 of last year and for a much more attractive price point. It comes with 2GB of RAM and a choice of 16GB or 32GB for internal storage. The Google Nexus 5X has a 12.3-megapixel with 1.55um pixels rear and 5-megapixel with 1.4um pixels front camera combination. For the first time, Google is installing USB Type-C ports and Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensors (located at the back) in its devices. It comes in three colors: carbon black, quartz white, or ice blue. The 16GB variant retails for £339 or roughly P23,890, while the 32GB variant retails for £379 or roughly P26,700.

On the other hand, the 5.7-inch Google Nexus 6P is developed by Huawei and will be equipped with an AMOLED screen and a huge 518ppi. It is also a tad bit bigger than its segment, in this case, the phablet category. The Nexus 6P carries the stronger Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core chip and a bigger 3GB of RAM. Likewise, the Nexus 6P will come in larger internal storage variants: 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB. It carries a 12.3-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front camera combination. It will also come installed with USB Type-C ports and Nexus Imprint fingerprint sensors. It comes in four colors: aluminum, graphite, frost, and gold (for Japan only). The 32GB variant retails for £449 or roughly P31,640. The 64GB variant retails for £499 or roughly P35,164. Finally, the 128GB variant retails for a wallet-crushing £579 or roughly P40,800.

Both phones will come loaded with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow and will be available internationally soon. As with previous Google Nexus phones, there is no word if they will be officially retailed in local markets.
