Having recently inked partnerships with top industry players like Mineski, Riot Games, and Garena, Globe Telecom has launched Globe Gaming—a holistic program which gamers and fans could turn to for the latest titles, local, regional and global esports competitions, original content, and exclusive programming.
Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu emphasized that Globe’s new role in the gaming and esports industry is to provide fully optimized internet connectivity, world-class events and tournaments in the Philippines. “Together with our new partners, we want to accelerate the gaming industry in the country by bringing gaming and esports into homes, mobile devices, malls, and competition venues,” he said.
Globe’s multi-year and exclusive partnership with premier Philippine esports organizations Mineski and MET (Mineski Events Team) will spur the formation and training of a forthcoming esports team that will compete in regional and global events. More than that, a multi-title competition that offers teams opportunities to be the “The Best in the Philippines” while advancing in elite tournaments titled the Globe Philippine Pro Gaming League will be established. The partnership will also bring back the MET owned Manila Masters in 2019.
“What excites us is Globe Telecom’s genuine commitment to build the future of gaming and e-sports in the Philippines. Their mission is authentic which is why we are embarking on this partnership,” said Ronald “Rhom” Robins, founder and CEO of Mineski International Group.
Meanwhile, Globe’s exclusive partnership with leading Southeast Asian game publisher Garena involves marketing, competitions, and content production for the leading mobile game, Arena of Valor (AoV). The two parties will unveil a series of “Valor Cup” esports tournaments that will offer teams the chance to compete for entry into the Arena of Valor World Championships, in Los Angeles in July where the prize money is US$500,000.
The Riot Games owned title, League of Legends (LoL) the world’s most played PC game with over 100 million active monthly users worldwide, is also part of the partnership. “Sharing a mindset is critical to any partnership, and Globe shares our vision in building for the long-term growth of esports across the region”, said Johnson Yeh, managing director of Riot Games for Greater China and Southeast Asia.
With this, Garena and Riot will introduce the SEA Tour, a groundbreaking multi-country tournament that will award its winning team a direct entry into League of Legends World Championships. Its first regional championship, the Globe Conquerors Manila, is the region’s leading competitive LoL event and will be held in Manila in August 2018.
