To meet the varying needs and budgets of consumers, vivo introduces another member of the Y series family — the vivo Y22s. Its price point falls between the Y35 and Y16, combining features seen in both devices. So what’s there to know about the Y22s?
Design and build
Continuing its streak when it comes to stylish and premium-looking designs, vivo showcases an artsy feather-like design in the Summer Cyan colorway. For a more minimalist vibe, there is the Starlit Blue colorway with a glitter finish. What added to its premium feel is the anti-glare back. On a different note, it feels a bit bulky weighing 192g and measuring 8.38mm, considering it’s also the heaviest and thickest among its Y siblings.
Inside the box
The phone comes with a protective case, 18W Fast Charger, USB-C cable, SIM ejector tool, quickstart guide, and warranty card.
Display
Up front you’ll be greeted by the 6.55-inch Halo FullView LCD Display with 90Hz refresh rate. I attribute the latter for my smooth brief interaction with the device. However, what made it feel dated is the combination of thicker bezels (especially at the bottom) and the waterdrop notch.
Camera
vivo takes pride in its camera technology. Even their entry-level smartphones generously receive a few advancements. This is what we see in the Y22s. It boasts a 50MP SuperNight main camera, which should significantly reduce noise in images, as well as brighten them when taking shots in low light conditions. You can also take close up shots with its 2MP macro camera. Meanwhile, situated in front is the 8MP selfie camera that has the same night capabilities. The selfie softlight band should naturally light up your face in dark scenarios.
Performance
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor and running on up to 16GB Dynamic RAM (8GB + 8GB Extended RAM), we’re anticipating an experience that goes beyond its price point. My initial experience setting up the phone hints to a seamless experience, making it safe to assume the aforementioned.
The Y22s houses a sizable 128GB storage, expandable up to 1TB, giving memory hoarders the freedom to keep all photos and videos well kept in their handy device. Additionally, you can explore and download as many photo editing apps.
Battery
Although there’s nothing much to be said about the 18W Fast Charge, we’ll still determine the duration of charging time in the full review. At least, for now, one can look forward to its hefty 5000mAh battery.
Final thoughts
With the goal to let you ‘Max out the Night,’ the vivo Y22s is equipped with a SuperNight camera, long battery life, and an above-average processor relative to its price tag. We’ll see how it’ll fare on a day-to-day basis in our full review, so stay tuned!
