The latest MateBook 14s from Huawei is the ideal laptop for the modern worker: it combines easy portability and a beautifully slim silhouette with strong tech specs needed for multitasking.
Design and build
Upon unboxing the Huawei MateBook 14s you’ll notice the fine edges along the sides of the laptop, which compliments the 150-grit sandblasted CNC texture that makes the laptop smooth to the touch. This only enhances the portability of the MateBook 14s, which weighs just 1.43kg and measures 16.7mm at its widest point. Despite its lightweight build, it still manages to fit in all the ports users need: 3.5mm headphone jack, two USB-C ports, one USB3.2, and an HDMI port.
My test model came in a beautiful Space Gray that sometimes gives off a purple hue, but it is also available in another color – Spruce Green. The newest Spruce Green laptop shade is inspired by Chinese landscape paintings and the company’s “wishes for a thriving life and great prosperity”. It was created by Huawei designers via an oxidation process that shows off the shifting and shimmering shades of green underneath varying lighting conditions.
The MateBook 14s comes with a 2.5K HUAWEI FullView Touch Display with Multi-Touch Gestures. This touch display comes with 10-point multi-touch support, essentially turning your monitor into a smartphone if you want a more tactile experience. This high definition screen supports a 2.5K resolution (2520×1680), 213 ppi pixel density, and a high 90Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood
To ensure that the screen can deliver such stunning clarity and speed, the MateBook 14s is loaded with an 11th Gen Intel Core High-Performance Processor. This powerhouse CPU contains Huawei’s Shark fin cooling system that decreases fan noise and improves heat dissipation. Meanwhile, the upgraded 60Wh battery allows for longer battery life and fast charging, particularly Huawei’s 65W SuperCharge. The provided Thunderbolt 4 port allows you options when charging or connecting an external device to this port.
In an effort to protect their user’s eyes, Huawei has integrated a hardware solution to filter out blue light with wavelengths between 415nm and 455nm, which can be harmful to vision. Smart Brightness Adjustment adds to the laptop’s ability to adjust to a user’s environment in order to provide them with comfortable and safe light emission. The MateBook 14s has thus passed the TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (Hardware Solution) Certification, along with TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free Certification.
Smart features
Smart features on the MateBook 14s include Multi-screen Collaboration with a smartphone, a tablet, a display, earphones, a mouse, speakers and printers. With the updated PC Manager, you can even control all of your connected devices at the click of a button. Meanwhile, quality-of-life features include the Fingerprint Power Button which securely takes you to your desktop after powering on the laptop. The new and improved full-size keyboard offers 1.5mm key travel, durable key caps and Soft-landing Design for a more comfortable and easy typing experience.
The MateBook 14s allows you to enjoy Mobile Apps on PC through the Mobile App Engine and Huawei Share. The Mobile App Engine is a first-of-its-kind innovation from Huawei that separates the Huawei MateBook 14s from the competition within its price range. Through the Mobile App Engine and Huawei Share, users can use mobile-specific apps and even send files across difference devices without using a data cable. This lets users load mobile apps like Instagram onto their laptop’s screen or download photos taken on your phone to your laptop. In addition, videos and other files can be easily shared between the laptop and a tablet and other devices. These features of Huawei AI Seamless Life in turn help to boost the seamless AI lives of Filipinos.
