Geely Automobile unveiled its new flagship SUV, the Xingyue L (codenamed KX11), at the Shanghai Auto Show, which runs from April 19 to 28. In addition to the three high-end products of “Star” series under Geely’s CMA architecture, the entire range of Geely’s SUV, sedan, MPV models were on display at the show.
The Geely Auto 4.0 Era consolidates the company’s position as a leader in the development of intelligent vehicles in four major areas: vehicle OTA, 5G Internet connection, intelligent digital cabin and application of autonomous driving technology. As a new high-end SUV under Geely’s CMA architecture (which also underpins Geely-owned Volvo), the Xingyue L perfectly inherits Geely’s five global genes of CMA architecture, namely “safety, health, intelligence, performance and energy saving.” CMA architecture is the core of Geely Auto 4.0 Era.
Blasting through the information superhighway
Reading the specs sheet of the Geely Xingyue L feels like going through the specs of the latest high-end smartphone. It’s equipped with the industry’s highest vehicle specification level Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, supporting 5G high-speed network, and one processor core driving multiple screens: a giant IMAX one-meter screen across the vehicle’s center console, a 25.6-inch AR-HUD head-up display and a 12.3-inch intelligent instrument screen, creating the intelligent cockpit with the largest screen-to-body ratio. The Xingyue L supports OTA (over the air) online upgrade technology, which can stay connected to a mobile network at any time like a mobile phone and update in real time.
Tech & luxury
The Xingyue L features an immersive and luxurious two-tone cabin with novel “cyberpunk black” accents mixed with a “classical bronze verdigris patina.” The seats incorporate woven Chinese elements like classical knots, giving a visual reminder of the brand’s heritage.
Technology figures highly in the Xingyue L’s interior. Geely’s new flagship comes with a 10-speaker Bose audio system, which combines with an engine harmonic noise-reduction technology and double-layered soundproofing for class-leading quietness.
The Xingyue L puts all of its computing power to good use. It’s equipped with 5G-AVP 1km unmanned parking technology, which enables real-time communication between an internet-enabled car park, the car cloud end, and the mobile end (via 5G technology), so that the vehicle can independently find a parking space to park and independently locate the owner. With this advanced autonomous driving technology, users (at least those in the Chinese market, where the technology—and the smart parking ecosystem—is available) can be completely freed from difficult parking scenarios or even from walking long distances to and from their car.
Turbo powertrain
The Xingyue L is powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine co-developed with Volvo. It’s paired to either a Geely-developed 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or an Aisin 8-speed automatic. The engine is available in two states of tune: 238hp/380Nm and 217hp/325Nm—both capable of brisk sub-8-second 0 to 100 km/h times.
Scandinavian style
From many angles, the Geely Xingyue L will remind you of a Volvo XC60—no surprise as the former owns the latter and both share the same design studio. The Xingyue L features three-segment matrix headlamps. The sides are decidedly Scandinavian minimalist. The rear end boasts dot-matrix taillamps that, like the headlamps, deliver illumination using over a hundred LEDs. The Xingyue L rests on a long 2,845mm wheelbase (roughly an inch shorter than a Volvo XC60’s).
