For the majority of my adult life, I was never the type of person who enjoyed binge watching YouTube videos or Netflix shows on my smartphone. I preferred consuming my content on a bigger screen. Only recently have I converted to using my smartphone to watch videos especially while enjoying a nice meal (I know a lot of you can relate).
The vivo Y100 might just be the perfect binge buddy. It is a stylish device that produces great visuals with battery and charging that can help support your long hours of consuming content. Let’s get to know this smartphone a little more.
Design and build
You have two unique color options for the vivo Y100 – Crystal Black and Breeze Green. The latter features a Breeze Texture that sparkles under bright light. It’s a bit too bright for my liking, but I could definitely see a lot of people enjoying this design.
The back cover is also built with Fluorite AG Glass, which is responsible for the color-changing. It’s the same glass that also contributes to its scratch, wear and fingerprint resistance.
In terms of the dimensions, the vivo Y100 weighs 196g and is 7.95mm thin. The Breeze Green color option seems to be slightly heavier and thicker than its darker counterpart.
The smartphone has protection against dust and water as well with its IP5X dust resistance and IPX4 water resistance ratings.
Display and speakers
Consuming multimedia on the vivo Y100 is definitely an enjoyable experience. It features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2400 x 1080. It also has a peak brightness of 1200nits.
I’m a baby Bloom, and I have recently been watching (and rewatching) all of BINI’s music videos (MV). Their MV’s are some of the most colorful ones out there, which meant the visuals really popped out and were really vibrant. And the responsiveness of the display was the cherry on top.
For the audio, the device is built with dual stereo speakers that you can boost up to 300%. Boy, was it loud. However, some of the sound quality was sacrificed at the maximum level and it ran the risk of sounding just a tad bit muffled and echoey.
Camera
The vivo Y100 is equipped with a dual camera setup. It features both a 50MP main shooter and 2MP bokeh camera. You might be fooled into thinking it’s a triple camera system, but the third lens is a flicker sensor.
Photos captured by the device were overall quite decent, especially under good lighting. The colors and the details were sufficient, but nothing too spectacular. Images taken in night mode were satisfactory as well.
Rounding off the photo taking capabilities is an 8MP front camera for taking those selfies.
For videos, you can record up to 1080P@30FPS. It also features Dual-View Video which allows you to capture videos using the front and back camera simultaneously.
All-in-all, the vivo Y100 can get the job done. We can’t expect smartphones in this segment to capture high quality, professional-grade photos and videos. But for the purpose of everyday use and social media content, you can’t go wrong with it.
Performance and OS
The vivo Y100 is powered by a Snapdragon 685 chipset. It comes with up to 256GB of storage which is expandable, and 8GB of RAM. Your usual everyday tasks for both work and leisure should be fine as long as it isn’t anything too intensive.
In terms of gaming, I experienced no hiccups with my game of choice – Call of Duty Mobile. I was able to run the game at the highest graphical settings. There is also the option to boost and optimize performance for gaming. However, for games like Genshin Impact, you might need to lower the graphics quality in order to smoothly run the title.
Unfortunately, one thing to take note of is that the device does not come with 5G connectivity.
For the OS, the vivo Y100 runs on Funtouch 14 which is based on Android 14. There’s a host of features that allows you to customize and personalize the UI. Multitasking is made easier as well with the small window, split-screen and mini window features.
Battery and charging
A 5,000 mAh battery powers the vivo Y100. The battery life can last you more than a day which is perfect for you bingers. You can squeeze every ounce of battery life that you can with the Battery Saver mode and the Super Battery Saver mode.
The device is also supported by 80W fast-charging. vivo claims that you can charge from 0-80% in 30 minutes. However, my own experience was more at around 60-65% after 30 minutes. A full charge from a dead battery for me took around an hour to achieve.
Overall, the device’s battery and charging capabilities ensure that you will never miss a beat with the content you consume.
Verdict
Usually, on the upper echelon of entry-level smartphones, we tend to lean towards all-rounders. While the vivo Y100 may come up short in some aspects, it more than makes up for it with its stylish design, impressive display and long lasting battery life. For Php 10,999, the vivo Y100 is an ideal companion throughout your binge watching journey. Whether it’s watching your favorite Netflix series or following your favorite content creators on YouTube, the vivo Y100 can definitely provide all of your multimedia consumption needs packed in an accessible price.
