Smartwatches continue to change the way we monitor our entire wellbeing. However, not everyone can afford the top-of-the-line models that big brands offer. Fortunately for us, the entry-level segment continues to grow in both quality and variety.
The TechLife Smart Watch P1 looks to be a promising option in this space. It has the look of a premium wearable, while offering the usual suspects we look for such as accurate GPS tracking, health and fitness monitoring, and the like.
Design & build
The smartwatch is built with a zinc alloy frame that features a brushed and polished finish. This gives the device a sporty and premium look to it, which I’m a huge fan of. There are also two color choices for the rubber strap: green and black.
I briefly need to comment on the vibration motor of the watch, as admittedly, I’m not the biggest fan of it. It’s a bit too loud for me, and the tactile feedback you get when rotating the crown feels slightly unnatural. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but a point of improvement for future iterations.
While I may not have the exact figures, the TechLife Smart Watch P1 is a little too light for my liking. For me, a heavier case inspires me with more confidence with regard to the durability of the device.
It’s rated IP68 and 5ATM, which makes the watch dust and water resistant. Just note that diving and deep water activities are not ideal while using the device.
In terms of overall comfort, I have no qualms with this smartwatch despite it taking up a considerable amount of space on my wrist. Whether I’m engaging in sports, or trying to catch some Z’s, the TechLife Smart Watch P1 seamlessly integrates itself into my daily life.
Display
The TechLife Smart Watch P1 features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a 466 x 466 resolution and a peak brightness of 500 nits. While it could be brighter, I do appreciate how colors pop on the screen, as well as how responsive it is.
There are four built-in watch faces to choose from. But if you want to mix it up a bit, you can access over 100 more options on the OnWear Pro app. If you want to dial up the creativity, you can either use your own photos for custom watch faces, or use the AI Watch Face feature to generate your own.
Always-On Display (AOD) is a feature as well, in case you want to check the time or admire your personalized watch face.
Smart features
Thankfully, the TechLife Smart Watch P1 supports Bluetooth calling for that added convenience. It has a microphone and speakers built into it, which allows you to make and receive calls. The Bluetooth calling support is compatible with most third-party applications as well, with FB Messenger being an exception.
Another convenient feature is ChatGPT AI support. This lets you ask away on the device and receive your answers in text format. So if you need some quick info on-the-go from ChatGPT, you can get it with this wearable.
Message and app notifications sync to the device as well. Said notifications can be customized to your preference with various tones and vibrations.
Health and fitness monitoring
As with most modern smartwatches, the Smart Watch P1 keeps track of relevant health metrics such as your heart rate, blood oxygen and sleep. It can also monitor your stress levels so that you know when to step aside and take a breather.
Same as with your health, you can monitor your fitness as well. The watch captures your usual suspects such as steps made, calories burned, and distance traveled. Additionally, there are more than 110 different fitness modes so that you can keep track of your activity.
To further enhance some of the outdoor workout modes, the watch comes with built-in GPS tracking. That way, if you’re cycling, running or walking, you will be able to accurately track your workout routes.
Compatibility
In terms of compatibility, the Smart Watch P1 is compatible with Android 6.0 and iOS 12.0 (as well as the later versions of these operating systems, of course). Download the OnWear Pro app on your mobile device to maximize the experience of using this smartwatch.
Battery
With typical usage, the TechLife Smart Watch P1 has a five-day battery life. There are cheaper options in the market that boast more than double the battery life of this device, so this is definitely another area for improvement.
Verdict
Overall, you get most of the basic necessities you look for in a smartwatch such as health and fitness tracking, and smart features. While the battery life leaves more to be desired, the AMOLED display is a big plus point that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Coupled with its sporty and premium design, the TechLife Smart Watch P1 is a welcome addition to the entry-level segment, especially given its retail price of Php 2,999.
