The November Hi-Fi Show is once again happening this November 11-12 at the same place – Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City. Entrance is free and you can try out (to an extent) the latest audio products from both foreign and local brands. If you’re intimidated by the event, don’t be, because it’s a lot of fun even for the casual goer.
Unlike other events that happen in the function halls of a hotel, the November Hi-Fi Show occupies around 60 rooms of Dusit Thani’s guest room area. Yes, that’s a couple of floors exclusive to an audio event. Each brand gets their own semi-private space where they can showcase their latest audio system without much interference from other participants. This is great for those who are flaunting multi-speaker or surround-sound systems.
The event also goes beyond speakers. There are tape recorders/players, turntables, bookshelf speakers, even vintage ones that are also for sale for the right price to the right person.
Speaking of brands, you’d see more than the usual suspects. If you think Bose, Sennheiser, and Harman-Kardon are already expensive, prepare to be stunned at the selection of November Hi-Fi Show. Boutique brands like Wilson Audio, Mola-Mola, PS Audio, dCS, and more will be joining the fray.
The halls aren’t empty either. There are some participants who occupy the corridors to show their earphones, headphones, custom cables, headphone amplifiers, and other smaller wares.
Bigger rooms are also home not only to bigger sound systems but recordings as well. Boxes upon boxes of vinyl records are arranged either per genre or alphabetically. Diving into these will get you either the latest releases or some vintage rarities at a bargain price. Some of these rooms, depending on the host, will also have a simple turntable system so you can listen to your record immediately. Apart from vinyls, there are cassettes and CDs for sale as well.
But for me, the best part of the November Hi-Fi Show is everyone’s welcoming attitude towards everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re an audio connoisseur, a casual listener, or just curious about the audio space – the owners will answer all your questions about their system, what makes it different from others, or the usual ‘why is it so expensive?’ Second best part would be the event exclusive prices and deals that some participants do.
