Dropbox has been part and parcel of our daily lives since our hard drives started bursting at the seams. But as you may know from leaks and hacks all over the web, cloud storage may not be the safest place to store all your private files.
Now, our worst fears have been realized. An anonymous hacker claims to have access to a few hundred usernames and passwords. As with the other leaks, it is unclear whether this hacker is the source of this hack or just a collector or a leaker. This anonymous user is asking for Bitcoin donations for the full leak. The hack preview to prove his point included email addresses that starts with the letter B.
Dropbox has stated that it “has not been hacked. These usernames and passwords were unfortunately stolen from other services and used in attempts to log in to Dropbox accounts.” The company has also stated that these passwords have long since expired thus rendering them useless.
Regardless, this is a cue for users everywhere to change their usernames and password once again, weeks after the email giant, Gmail, has been hacked.
