Dell has just released the new super compact, multi-functional, and deceptively powerful Vostro 3681. This small desktop computer packs a robust 10th Gen Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM, and 1TB HDD all packed in a sharp and sleek metal case. This may be a small PC but it definitely does not skip out on performance. Let’s find out why.
Design and build
The Dell Vostro’s case measures in at 11.42in x 3.65in x 11.53in which is really compact for a desktop computer. It weighs in at 7.76 lb and has a rectangular shaped design. This small-sized form factor makes it the perfect desktop computer for your work from home setup or an office. The case can either be placed vertically or horizontally making it ideal for those who have limited work spaces. All this hardware is encompassed within a black metal shell that feels premium as well as durable. One complaint I have with its design is since it is so compact the fans tend to get quite loud; nonetheless this is something forgivable due to the performance.
The Vostro has an abundance of I/O ports all strategically and conveniently located. It has 2 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.2, 5:1 Media Card Reader, Audio Jack, and even an Optical Disk Drive located in the front panel. While at the back it has a Line Out, HDMI, VGA, 2 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.2, and Ethernet port. The amount of ports are plenty and are more than enough for the average user. In terms of functionality and flexibility, this device gets a solid A+.
Under the hood
The Vostro features a 10th Gen Core i7 processor which is one of the fastest on the market right now. This means that it has good processing speeds capable of creating Powerpoint presentations, light video editing, and photo editing. Multitasking and having several applications open at one time is a norm in this day and age, so 8GB of RAM may not be enough for people doing intensive tasks. The 1TB HDD on the other hand gives more leeway for people to save personal documents, photos, and videos. The Vostro has a built-in Intel Wireless-AC 3165 802.11ac 1×1 so it is capable of connecting to your standard WiFi as well as Bluetooth.
The Vostro also has a bundled option that includes a Dell Multimedia Keyboard, Dell Optical Mouse, and a Dell S2219HX 21.5-inch Monitor. The keyboard is functional and comfortable to use despite being generic design-wise. The optical mouse feels similarly, nothing special but it does the job. The star of the show is really the monitor. The monitor really surprised me with its vibrant colors and its almost borderless 21.5-inch 60Hz display. It is actually quite bright and the images look sharp and detailed so definitely consider getting the monitor bundled with the Vostro if you don’t have one already.
Verdict
The Vostro is a great all-around PC perfect for office or school work. It has enough processing power for the usual work applications such as Powerpoint, Photoshop, and video editing which makes it a really capable workhorse of a computer. For an SRP price of PHP35,990 the Vostro is a perfect pre-built PC for your everyday working needs.
