Without a shadow of a doubt, the past four years have truly changed the way we approach work. A lot of companies have reverted back to their on-site work arrangement, but needless to say that the hybrid work setup is now at the forefront of our minds.
And with that, we gravitate towards more compact devices that can help us both unleash our creativity and enhance our productivity regardless of where we are. Say no more – the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” can help you achieve both. Whether you’re a content creator or a working professional, this tablet definitely has something for you. Let’s dive deeper and see what it has to offer.
Design & build
Sleek and sophisticated – that’s how I can best describe the aesthetics of the MatePad Pro 13.2”. It comes in Golden Black for all you minimalists out there. Another more vibrant option comes in green. Both come with a metallic finish for a little bit of added flair.
Undoubtedly, this tablet is quite easy on the eyes. But don’t let its looks fool you – the MatePad Pro 13.2” is built to last. The rear cover is made from high-strength glass fiber for that added durability.
Despite its robust nature, it’s still able to maintain a compact form factor. It comes in at just 550g and 5.5mm, making it the slimmest tablet out there. For comparison, the MatePad Pro 11-inch was around 5.9mm. Your peace of mind is guaranteed knowing that you can easily take it with you everywhere you go.
What’s in the box?
Straight out of the box, the MatePad Pro 13.2” comes with a HUAWEI SuperCharge Adaptor, along with a USB Type-C cable.
There is an option for additional accessories that are meant to help you create masterpieces, make work more convenient, or even both. These are the HUAWEI M-Pencil (3rd Generation) and the all-new HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard.
The HUAWEI M-Pencil is equipped with NearLink Technology which is designed to provide the user with a smoother writing experience through lower latency, more precise lines and adaptive pressure. This adaptive pressure comes from the fact that the stylus has 10,000 levels of pressure sensing, which provides variety to the artist in terms of the type of strokes needed to bring his or her work to life.
I am in no way an artist whatsoever; doodling is the highest level of art I can achieve. But I was impressed with how the stylus felt like it was gliding on the surface of the screen, with every stroke coming out the way I felt like I executed it.
The HUAWEI Smart Magnetic Keyboard on the other hand enhances the ability for PC or laptop-level productivity. It comes in a split design and is equipped with a built-in touchpad to help seamlessly navigate through the device. The keyboard itself is high-quality, even providing a more satisfying feel and feedback than other actual laptops in the market.
The keyboard also allows you to play around with the setup and orientation. The back cover that comes with it creates a stand for the tablet providing different viewing angles based on your preference. The actual keyboard can also serve as a base for the tablet, looking more like a laptop. These provide unique ways for you to set up your device and to explore what you’re comfortable with.
It’s also worth noting these additional accessories are best utilized with applications such as WPS Office, Mojing Paint and HUAWEI Notes.
Display
I was genuinely impressed with the display of the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2”. It is equipped with a Flexible OLED Display with a resolution of 2880×1920 and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It produced crisp and vibrant pictures while maintaining smooth and clear visuals.
A lot of this is down to the HUAWEI X-True Display technology. It allows for accurate color reproduction, achieving ∆E<1 professional color accuracy performance within sRGB and P3 color gamut. Its high contrast ratio also provides enhanced details as the light and dark areas on the screen are made significantly more distinguishable.
These features make the MatePad Pro 13.2” ideal for many creatives. However, they also allow the device to be used for leisure activities such as bingeing your favorite Marvel series on Disney+ or watching your favorite content creators on YouTube.
The tablet’s borders are also extremely slim at only 3.4mm, thus achieving an impressive 94% screen-to-body ratio. Coupled with its 3:2 aspect ratio, you’re able to display more on the screen vertically. This is extremely useful for business professionals who might need the extra screen real estate to consume more information.
The display also features TUV Rheinland Global Eye Care 3.0 certification which is the most comprehensive standard for eye protection in mobile devices. You can rest easy knowing that your eyes will be protected despite prolonged usage.
Overall the display of the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” makes it quite versatile for various practical-use cases and functions. Unique types of users can surely benefit from this well-rounded display.
Speakers
Briefly touching on the audio, the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” features a six-speaker design. Four are custom woofers while the remaining two are tweeters. HUAWEI SOUND technology automatically adjusts the sound based on different scenes that overall provide an immersive listening experience.
Camera
Tablets aren’t usually the go-to devices when it comes to capturing photos and videos. Although it’s still pretty convenient to have one that captures decent quality images. The camera system of the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” does exactly that.
The rear system features 13 MP main and 8 MP wide angle cameras. The front on the other hand contains a 16 MP camera. All perform decently. I found the clear selfie camera to be extremely useful though when attending my virtual meetings.
Performance
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” is powered by a Kirin 9000W processor. It also features 12 GB of memory and up to 512 GB of storage. These make the tablet more than capable of performing your everyday multitasking needs. Apart from creating your own art pieces, this device can definitely keep up with your photo editing needs as well as short form video content.
To further drive your productivity, the tablet is capable of utilizing multi-windows. You can even adjust the size and the ratios of these windows to your ideal preference, thus emulating the PC or laptop-like experience.
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” can also be used with Super Hub and Super Device in tandem with other HUAWEI devices. This allows for a seamless and efficient work flow as you’re able to access files on multiple devices, expand your windows to feature two screens and many more ways to collaborate. Battery and charging
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” is equipped with 5,050 mAh (7.7V) battery, which is equivalent to 10,100 mAh (3.85V). The tablet features a 2S series battery power architecture. This doubles the tablet’s capacity while still maintaining safety standards.
The tablet also supports 88W wired HUAWEI SuperCharge. This means that it can charge up to 85% in just 40 minutes. After testing, I found this to be fairly accurate. A full charge takes just a little over an hour.
Verdict
The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 13.2” is truly a versatile tablet that can cater to a wide array of users. It can provide creatives an avenue to unleash their full creative potential, as well as provide business professionals with a productivity workhorse that can perform similar to that of a PC or laptop.
Factor in its compact nature and portability, then you have a problem solving machine you can take with you anywhere you go. Creativity, productivity and portability – hearing these three things together does have a nice ring to it.
