You’ve seen them around. People ducked with their heads staring intently at their smartphone’s screens. Perhaps you’re even one of the many people addicted to the mobile MMO strategy video game Clash of Clans. It’s a big enough deal in the country that our two largest telcos are hosting separate tournaments to see who the best CoC players in the country are. Both are even offering up to P2-million worth of prizes to the worthy contenders.
Globe’s tournament is coming up first. In fact, it’s happening this weekend starting at Abreeza Mall in Davao today until tomorrow, July 26. The #NextLevelKa Clash of Clans tournament hosted by Globe and Clash of Clans Philippines community will be a series of two-day competitions that will be happening in Manila, Laguna, La Union, Cebu, and Davao. As mentioned, Abreeza Mall is the first stop. Then TriNoma in Quezon City will be the next stop from tomorrow until Monday, July 27. After that, it’ll be CSI Mall in La Union from August 1 to 2. Finally, Ayala Center in Cebu from August 28 to 29.
To join Globe’s tournament you need to be a Globe subscriber registered to GoSURF50 plan. If you’re joining on your own, you’ll need at least a Town Hall 3 Level Village. If you’re joining under the clan category, you’ll need a Town Hall 7 or above. Troop level per Town Hall will not be considered. You can register onsite at the Globe Prepaid booths on the days of the competitions.
Now, if you’re interested in the Smart-sponsored Philippine Clash tournament. The online registration page is already up. They’ll be covering five key regions including NCR, North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The NCR qualifier is happening at SM Light Residences Mall on August 2, the South Luzon one will be at SM City Lipa on August 8, and the Visayas leg will be at SM City Cebu on August 23. Meanwhile, the Mindanao qualifier will be at SM Davao Lanang Premier on September 5 and the North Luzon qualifier will be at SM City Baguio on September 18.
To join, each clan must have five members, each having a Town Hall Level 9 Village. They don’t have to be Smart subscribers to join, but those who are will get their registration fees waived. Non-Smart subscribers will have to pay P350 each. This tournament will be following the “Royal Rumble” format, meaning all clans will play at the same time without rankings or groupings.
Smart partners with Philippine eSports Organization, Inquirer eSports, SM Cyberzone, and Philippine Clash of Clans Battleground for this competition. The grand finals will be held on September 26 at SM Mall of Asia.
The Philippine Clash 2015 Grand Champion will take home a grand prize of P500,000 in cash. On top of this, each member of the winning team shall receive a brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 phone and Smart Bro Pocket WiFi. Exciting prizes also await all the remaining finalists, with the Second and Third placers taking home P300,000 and P200,000 in cash, respectively, plus Smart Bro Pocket Wi-Fi units for all their members.
Aside from the competition, fans can look forward to the CoC Cosplay competition, which offers P5,000 worth of SM gift certificates to the winner in each qualifier leg and P70,000 cash prize to the winner in the grand finals.
Each leg will also have tutorials by CoC experts, meet-and-greet sessions with the country’s top clans, other games, and raffles of gaming devices. For the grand finals Supercell, the Finland-based game developer of CoC, will be flying in along with CoC YouTube personalities Chief Pat and Galadon to dish out strategies and tips.
