The term “N95” as used for facemasks first became popular right after the eruption of Taal Volcano last January. This type of facemask became a must-have especially for areas within the radius of the heavy ashfall from the eruption.
Two months later, facemasks have become an essential, not just for certain localities, but for every human being in every town, every city, every country.
And as facemask filtration goes, the N95 standard is among the highest. “N95” stands for the standard set by the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health for 95% air filtration of airborne particles measuring 0.3 microns or higher.
N95 filters are made from cutting-edge manufacturing and material technologies using an extremely fine mesh of synthetic electrostatic polymer fibers, also known as nonwoven polypropylene fabric, through a process called melt-blowing. Melt-blowing forms the inner filtration layer that filters out hazardous particles including bacteria and viruses.
And now, the N95 standard is becoming available in automobile airconditioning cabin filters. All Chery Tiggo 5X, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 models come standard with ultra-efficient long-life N95 AC cabin air filters.
The cabin filters in these Chery models work in three phases using three layers of filtration. In phase 1, a percolator filter blocks larger particles like dust and outdoor pollution (i.e. black diesel exhaust smoke). In phase 2, the electrostatic fine fiber mesh filters out particles as small as 0.3 microns with 95% efficiency. In phase 3, an activated charcoal layer filters out harmful gases (i.e. toluene, N-butane, SO2) and deodorizes peculiar smells.
The high efficiency of the Chery AC filter also helps dehydrate and remove moisture from the cabin air, which effectively reduces the lifespan of most germs.
This is already the third-generation of AC cabin filter technology. The first was in the 90s, when airconditioned cars had a rudimentary cabin filter. Generation 2, which is still used in most cars today, had the PM2.5 standard (PM standing for particulate matter). The AC cabin filters used in the subcompact Chery Tiggo 5X 1.5, compact Tiggo 7 1.5 Turbo and midsize 7-seater Tiggo 8 1.5 Turbo use the latest ultra-efficient PM0.3 standard.
The Chery Tiggo 5X is priced at P818,000 while the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 are priced at P1,195,000 and P1,280,000, respectively.
Chery also leads the industry with its longest-ever 10-year/1 million-km engine warranty, 5-year general vehicle warranty, and 3-year free PMS promo package.
