Chery goes upmarket with premium-class all-new Tiggo 7 Pro

Chery Auto Philippines is setting its sights on a new segment of buyers who still look for value but want more luxury and premium features. It is precisely this segment that Chery is targeting with its all-new Tiggo 7 Pro compact crossover which it formally unveiled in a live streaming event held on Facebook at 7:00pm last Wednesday.

Chery gave a sneak peek of the all-new Tiggo 7 at the online auto show MIAS Wired last December but only fully took the wraps off the new car this week.

“We are excited to finally give the full reveal of our all-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. With its upmarket styling and luxury features, we expect it to surprise and delight Filipinos longing for the design and technology found in high-end luxury SUVs, but at a much more affordable price point,” says Chery Auto Philippines President Rommel Sytin.

The new Tiggo 7 Pro’s European-inspired design was penned by a Briton, Chery’s Vice President and Global Chief of Car Design, Kevin Rice. Rice was instrumental in the design of Mazdas, including the MX-5, from 1999 to 2005 as Hiroshima’s European Design Director, and with BMW, for the exterior design of the previous 1, 3 and 4 Series.

“We’re a global automotive brand with a global R&D footprint, including five centers worldwide—the Wuhu R&D headquarters, the Shanghai Exeed Center, the European R&D center in Frankfurt, Germany, and centers in North America and Brazil, respectively. Now this global R&D team consists of over 5,500 engineers from more than ten countries around the world,” declared  Ray Bierzynski, Executive Vice President for Research and Development—CHERY Automobile, during the virtual launch.

The all-new Tiggo 7 Pro presents an assertive visage on the road with its big, bold grille and upscale-looking slim LED matrix headlamps. The foglamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) are all LED as well for state-of-the-art road illumination.

More upmarket styling touches include a floating roof effect achieved by black wrap-around rear pillars, distinctive character lines, and large 18-inch alloy wheels with comfort-oriented 225/60R18 tires.

The rear is consistent with the luxury theme, with a red strip that connects the taillights similar to the treatment found in some luxury performance German SUVs. Beautifully integrated chrome-tipped dual tailpipes and rear spoiler enhance the visual performance and upmarket appeal.

The all-new Tiggo 7 Pro’s well-crafted leather-covered cabin reflects the same upscale style and premium build quality and features expressed by the exterior. Extensive side bolstering on the power-adjustable front seats give supreme comfort on long drives and project a sporty bucket seat style. There is a biggest-in-class 10.25-inch touchscreen 6-speaker infotainment system that boasts Bluetooth, Mirror Link, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and USB connectivity. A touch-panel controls the AC system, further underscoring the luxury car feel.

A very luxury car-like feature of the Tiggo 7 Pro is its Smart Key, which not only starts the engine, but can also turn on the aircon, open the tailgate and windows—all at a push of a button. The Tiggo 7 Pro also has wireless mobile phone charging plus three USB ports for high onboard connectivity with various gadgets.

Other premium Tiggo 7 Pro features include a largest-in-class panoramic sunroof, welcome lights, multi-color cabin ambient lighting, 360-degree HD camera, a power tailgate, a push-button electronic parking brake, a tire pressure monitoring system, a rear camera with front and rear proximity sensors, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

The all-new Tiggo 7 Pro is powered by a new-generation 1.5L turbocharged DOHC 16-valve Euro 5-compliant 4-cylinder engine coupled with an all-new 9-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine is made from American and German components: Honeywell for the turbochargers, BorgWarner for the DVVT valvetrain, and Bosch for the engine’s steel drive belt.

The Tiggo 7 Pro’s suite of safety features include six airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Electronic Brake Assist (EBA), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Assist Control (HDC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and ISOFIX child-seat tethers.

It also has a Brake Override System, which automatically overrides the throttle when the gas and brake pedals are accidentally depressed at the same time. The Tiggo 7 Pro also has an Emergency Signal System, which flashes the hazard lights at high speed if the driver suddenly brakes when traveling at high speed to more quickly alert the motorist following behind.

The new Tiggo 7 Pro sweetens the deal with Chery’s standard 10-year/1 million-km engine warranty, a 5-year/150,000-km general vehicle warranty, free 3-year preventive maintenance service (PMS), and free 3-year roadside assistance.

The all-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro has a retail price of PHP 1,198,000 and is available in Brilliant Teal, Blazing Black, Radiant Red, and Sporty White colors. A lower priced model, the Tiggo 7 Comfort, has fewer features and starts at PHP1,128,000. The all-new Tiggo 7 Pro can now be seen at any of the 17 health-protocol-compliant Chery dealerships nationwide.
