The Korean tech giant has a few goodies to share with everyone, most of them focusing on 4K technology. It seems like 4K will be the buzzword for 2015, and Samsung is gunning to be the top-of-mind choice. From TVs to products and services, Samsung is setting a pretty solid pace for non-smartphone and tablet devices for the year. The only concern here would be affordability and accessibility. As we all know, both concepts go hand-in-hand and could spell success or financial flop for a tech company. For now, we look on to Samsung’s 4K overload showcase:
Curved monitors
Samsung likes its curves, and it shows in their display tech. From smartphones to TVs to monitors, the brand wants people to appreciate curves as well. Samsung plans to release nine new curved monitors for 2015, the first of which is already available in many parts of the world. The SE790C is a 34-inch curvy beast, sporting 3,440 x 1,440 panels and a 21:9 aspect ratio. Picture-in-picture, picture-by-picture, and four USB slots at the back for all you devices. The possibility of being able to arrange “pictures” (screens) in one big display presents a great argument of having one monitor instead of multiple displays, which makes us very happy.
SUHD TVs
The brand’s love affair with curved screen technology also appears on their TVs. Not wanting to release just another line of TVs, Samsung takes ultra high definition a step further with three SUHD TVs. Unlike other brands sporting an Android OS for their Smart TVs, Samsung uses homegrown platform Tizen, to do the thinking. Nanocrystal semiconductors produce better color accuracy, while a remastering process adjusts contrast and brightness without being a power hog. The SUHD TV is new technology, and for those who get dizzy with 3D TV screens, this may be the preferred choice.
External SDDs
This announcement had us sticking our thumbs up in approval! Its read/write speed clocks in at 450MB/s, or around the same time as new desktops. The USB 3.0 storage is powered by V-NAND chips, providing fast performance without spending a lot. It comes in 3 capacities and price ranges. The 250GB costs $180, the 500GB is pegged at $300, and the 1TB option costs $600. We’re definitely keeping our eyes peeled for further news of the SSD T1!
Music and video streaming, 4K video downloads
Samsung also announced its intention to enter the music and video streaming industries. Milk and Milk TV give Samsung users the ability to get music and videos directly into their devices like smartphones and Smart TVs, much like how Spotify does it for music. Samsung also announced that they will be offering 4K movie downloads though there have been few specifics. To round things out, the brand has joined forces with the likes of LG, Netflix, Dolby, and Disney to release 4K resolution videos within the year.
