High dynamic range or HDR is one of the new buzzwords for TVs at CES 2016. TCL is helping start this trend with its new X1 4K TV. It’ll be powered by Dolby Vision HDR, a high dynamic range system that promises brighter and sharper images with peak brightness at 1,000 nits. For comparison, Vizio Reference displays before that were considered exceptional max out at approximately 800 nits.
The other features packed into the 65-inch X1 include 288 zones of local dimming, a wider color gamut, built-in Harman/Kardon sound system, and a curved display.
Dolby Vision promises even more lifelike imagery that will be the boost your 4K TV will need. The likes of Universal Pictures and MGM will release moves in Dolby Vision. But they still have to get more content and hardware partners to truly release a lot of Dolby Vision-mastered content. This is usually the issue with bleeding edge technology.
