Captain Marvel isn’t just the first superheroine-led film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’ll also be the first Disney film to exclusively launch on Disney’s streaming service. This means that once it’s done its rounds in the cinemas, you’ll only be able to catch it again on Disney+.
Disney CEO Bob Iger also announced at a recent investors call that the company plans to drop its licensing program, meaning all its content will be made exclusive to its service. Iger promises that the company and its sub-brands—which include Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, and once its deal closes with 20th Century Fox, there’s also National Geographic—will develop more exclusive content for the service.
We don’t have any news yet about the service itself. But it’s expected to cost less than Netflix and come out sometime at the end of the year.
