Midway through the year, we’re hoping that 2016’s game-to-movie adaptations–Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed–make it through the public alive. Game-to-movie adaptations are rarely ever good. Just look at the declining interest in Resident Evil, Battleships, and the abysmal Pixels. We don’t live in a time when video games translate well into feature films.
Blizzard Entertainment and Legendary Pictures are trying to change the zeitgeist with the upcoming adaptation of their bestselling Warcraft universe. The Warcraft movie focuses on the war between orcs and humans in Azeroth. The film stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, and Dominic Cooper. The movie premieres on May 25, 2016.
To sweeten the movie deal, Blizzard will be offering a free digital copy of World of Warcraft, the series’ MMORPG game. This promo will be available internationally including the Philippines.
Those who buy tickets in participating SM Cinemas will receive a digital key for their download until supplies last. This includes 30 days of free game time. Additionally, those who log-in between May 25 and August 1 will receive a set of free movie-inspired transmogrification items.
Just to reiterate, the promo will run indefinitely until supplies last. Also, while Blizzard has confirmed their participation in the promo, SM has yet to release any promotional material or even the participating cinemas for the promo. Stay tuned for updates!
UPDATE: SM Cinemas have confirmed their involvement in the promo. The promo will last from May 25 to May 31 only. Also, you have to watch the movie in 3D to be eligible for the promo.
