Ever wondered if your favorite celebrity has some rules or guidelines they abide by when posing for selfies or posting online? The new face of ASUS Philippines, Bea Alonzo, gets candid with us about her online life during the post-event press conference for the new ASUS Zenfone 4 line—which was also the star’s debut as the brand’s new ambassador. Here are some highlights from that interview:
Top five tips for taking selfies:
- Mataas yung angle para maganda yung jawline . [Hold the phone at a higher angle to make your jawline look better.]
- Find a place that has good lighting.
- When in doubt, suck [in] your cheeks.
- Always feel good and feel beautiful.

What fills up your phone gallery?
Kapag may ganitong events [When we have these kinds of events], and they make me glamorous than the usual, we take a lot of pictures. Selfies that’ll be shared on social media. That and random things. When I’m taping, when I see something beautiful. When I’m traveling, especially when I’m traveling, I take a lot of photos.
Do you have any social media rules?
No negativity. If hindi ako sigurado sa i-post ko or [I get the] sudden urge to post something because of anger or because of annoyance, hindi ko na gagawin. I think about what I post before I post it. Kasi I think there’s a huge responsibility if you have a lot of followers, lalo na kapag mas bata kasi siyempre they look up to you. You influence them so you have to be responsible about every little photo that you will post. Siyempre ayaw mo naman sila bigyan ng maling impluwensya ‘di ba?
[No negativity. If I’m not sure about what I’m posting or (I get the) sudden urge to post something because of anger or because of annoyance, I won’t do it. I think about what I post before I post it. Because I think there’s a huge responsibility if you have a lot of followers, especially if they’re younger since they look up to you. You influence them so you have to be responsible about every little photo that you will post. You wouldn’t want to be a bad influence, of course.]
Do you have a private account to maintain a certain level of privacy?
I don’t. I believe kasi ano yung sini-share mo sa mundo, yun lang din babalik sayo. So, if you share love and happiness, yun din babalik sayo. ‘Di ba you reap what you sow? And so if yung wall mo ay made with love and happiness, yun lang ang babalik sayo. And also yung mga tao, hangang saan sila makikialam ay depende kung hangang saan mo sila papapasukin. So, if you post a picture na medyo controversial, you don’t expect other people not to meddle. Of course, you should expect them to ask questions. But if through your actions you tell them somehow na “Oops. Akin na ‘to. Dito na muna kayo.” I’m sure everybody will respect [that].
[I don’t. I believe that what you share to the world will come back to you. So if you share love and happiness, that’s what’s going to return. You reap what you sow, right? And so if you’re wall is made with love and happiness, that’s what’s coming back to you. Also, people won’t prod into your life unless you let them in. So, if you post a picture that’s a bit controversial, you don’t expect other people not to meddle. Of course, you should expect them to ask questions. But if through your actions you tell them somehow that “Oops. This is just for me. I won’t let you in past this.” I’m sure everybody will respect (that).]
What do you have to say about people who feel envy on social media?
It depends on your perception of things. If meron na talagang nag-root na inggit sayo, when you see other’s photos, imbes na matuwa ka for them, mainggit ka. Para siyang icing on the cake. The most important thing is that you know yourself and you have inner peace. Siguro kung may peace ka within you kahit na siguro anong ibato sayo ng mundo malalagpasan mo.

We noticed you’re just on Instagram…
Because I love photos. I didn’t feel the need to create a Snapchat account. Di ko lang naisipan. Facebook naman… hindi ako gumawa ng Facebook account kasi gusto ko for my friends to see me personally instead of saying hi online. The reason why I opened an Instagram account is that I like taking pictures and looking at pictures of others. Bukod sa naupdate ako, for me, it’s art. I like looking at art.

That I really don’t understand. Hindi ako ganun ka-OC when it comes to that. Kung ano nakikita mo sa social media account ko. That is what’s really happening in real life. Kung nag-taping ako, I will post a photo of me taping. Hindi ko kailangan i-curate. I’m speaking for myself. As much as na-appreciate ko ang well-curated wall, I want people to see me as someone candid.
