Apple’s new M5 chip makes its way to Macbook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro

A few months after its expected introduction, Apple has finally unveiled the M5 processor. This is the 5th standard version of their highly efficient processor that uses a third-generation 3-nanometer process. It now begins with a 10-core CPU and GPU combined with a faster memory bandwidth up to 153 GB/s for faster performance across a variety of tasks.

Like before, the Macbook Pro and iPad Pro were the first to receive the new processor but this time, they are accompanied by the Vision Pro as well.

The 14-inch Macbook Pro gets heavier on the wallet as it now starts at PHP 99,990. Apple made it worth the tag by fitting it with an M5 with 10/10 cores, 16GB of memory, and 512GB of SSD storage. The faster memory bandwidth of the M5 makes the MBP load up any app faster including loading times for transfers. It also has a 24-hour battery life despite its monstrous capability, making it a powerhouse despite the ‘basic’ processor it has.

Creators will certainly love its gains over the M4. It has 7.7x faster AI performance, 1.8X faster than MBP with M4, 6.8x faster 3D rendering in Blender, 3.2x higher frame rates in games, and 2.1x faster build performance in compiling codes in Xcode.

Just like the MBP, the gains on the iPad Pro were modest. It’s faster in AI, coding, video rendering, and basic multi-tasking. Where it really shines is the video processing for games as it now starts with 12GB of unified memory, combined with the faster memory speed.

What’s new is the iPad Pro can now work with external displays up to 120Hz. It also supports Adaptive Sync which ramps up transfer to external displays resulting in very low latency. The iPad Pro will start at PHP 72,990 with 9-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 12GB memory, and 256GB of storage.

The Vision Pro is still not available in the Philippines but it can be bought from nearby countries like Japan and Singapore. You’d be glad to know that the M5 processor improved the visuals of this virtual experience. It renders 10% more pixels and can run frame rates up to 120 Hz for a more realistic experience.

Aside from the tech improvements, it also has a new Dual Knit band that offers a more comfortable fit. It now has upper and rear knit straps that are 3D-designed as a single unit to create a unique finish that’s soft, breathable, and stretchy. It’s compatible with the previous version of the Vision Pro as well.

Again, the Vision Pro is still not available in the country but the M5 Macbook Pro and iPad Pro can now be ordered at store.apple.com/ph
