Thinking of lining up for the new Apple Watch? You won’t get a chance to. Apple has decreed that its watches will be sold via a reservation system only.
With this new reservation system, Apple aims to control the supply and demand. Customers won’t be able to go into an Apple Store and buy it off the rack. In fact, they won’t be able to try it on at all. Fitting should also be scheduled with a representative.
This comes as a surprise since it’s always been a tech tradition that an Apple release is preceded by overnight queues that span entire blocks. Like a Louis Vuitton store, Apple will be treating their Watch like luxury watches, complete with handlers and exclusivity. To be fair, the highest Watch variant goes up to US$17,000.
We have to wonder how Smart and Globe will adapt to this exclusive system when they carry the new Watch in their plans. That is, if they’ll be carrying them at all. With this reservation system, we might be seeing a trend that’s as rare (but not as affordable) as a OnePlus phone.
The Apple Watch will release within the coming weeks. It will start at $349, going up to $17,000.
