Alfa Romeo ups the ante with its precious Giulia Quadrifoglio. While it still is one of the most beautiful cars in the world, top-spec Giulia’s days are over with the introduction of the 2021 Giulia GTA – the new top-dog four-leaf clover.
If the Giulia GTA moniker sounds familiar, that’s because Alfa Romeo has used the name back in the late ‘60s. The sports car, which was a coupe at that time, was developed by Autodelta, Alfa Romeo’s racing division. It was celebrated for its lightweight body construction and power figures, which makes it a memorable car within Alfa Romeo’s stables.
This time around, the Giulia GTA name returns as the new top-spec variant in the range, right atop the renowned Giulia Quadrifoglio. For its namesake, the GTA bears the same heritage as its predecessor, embodying what GTA stands for – Gran Turismo Alleggerita or “Grand Touring Lightened” in English.
With that said, the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA sheds 100 kilograms in comparison to the existing Quadrifoglio. This was made possible through lightweight body components like the carbon-fiber hood, roof, front bumper, and fenders. The most notable exterior features of the car are its 20-inch clover-spoked alloys and its active front splitter that comes from the brand’s relationship with Sauber Engineering. The rear end of the Giulia GTA also gets some pizzazz in the form of a massive wing and a large diffuser.
The regular Quadrifoglio might already have 505 horsepower available at the crank, but the Giulia GTA gets more from the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 at 533 hp. This allows the sports sedan to reach 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.6 seconds from a complete standstill. Part of the upgrade to GTA is the use of Akrapovič titanium exhaust that maximizes engine performance at a lighter weight. In terms of handling, the 2021 Giulia GTA also gets improvements like new springs, shocks, and bushings for the suspension, as well as a 50mm wider front and rear track width.
As for the cabin, most of the Giulia GTA’s interior is covered in Alcantara, spread across the dashboard, door panels, pillars, and center of the seats.
While the Giulia GTA is already an attractive proposition, an even snazzier version of the sedan has also been introduced. Called the Giulia GTAm, the hardcore version is lighter with just two seats, while also given six-point harnesses and a roll bar. Surprisingly, the whole package is still street-legal.
Meanwhile, the Philippines is yet to get a regular Giulia Quadrifoglio from Petromax Enterprisem, the importer of Alfa Romeo, Abarth, and Fiat to the country. It will be a long shot to dream about the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm. But then again, only time will tell.
