Launching a movement aimed to lessen the divide between Gen Xers and millennials, Acer Philippines brings together the two generations with their technology, busting through barriers built upon misunderstandings and misconceptions.
“At Acer, we believe that it’s time to focus on bridging the generation divide,” shares Sue Ong-Lim, Sales and Marketing director of Acer Philippines. “It’s imperative we see that, amidst the difference between Gen Xers and millennials, they are also a lot alike.”
The #TimeForUs launch was launched this June and led by Acer Philippines at Yes Please. This modern bar found at Bonifacio Global City was altered to become a wonderland reminiscent of the ’80s and ’90s and served as a dream world for those who loved the golden age.
But despite the nostalgic appearance, it was also filled with today’s technology-old school arcades paired with Acer’s latest laptops, music sets that shifted from old school beats to modern pop, and an overall aesthetic that perfectly mixed and brought out the best of each era symbolized the event’s cause.
Central to the campaign is the partnership between Acer Philippines and Casio owned franchise G-Shock which appeals both the Gen X and millennial generation, and continues to be popular among the youth today.
As Acer Philippines formally announced its partnership with G-Shock, the powerhouse brands launched the #TimeForUs promo, where those who purchase qualifying Acer laptops are entitled a G-Shock watch which they may claim in any of Acer’s service centers in Manila, Cebu, and Davao.
To give even more flare to the event, Acer Philippines invited Basti Artadi. A legendary rock musician among those from Gen X, Artadi became famous during the mid- to late-90’s and is the vocalist of the award-winning rock band Wolfgang.
Joining him is spoken word artist and representative of the millennials, Juan Miguel Severo who popularized the vocal art of spoken poetry when his original piece, “Ito Na Ang Huling Tula Na Isusulat Ko Para Sa’yo” became viral on social media, making it a flourishing art among millennials. Thanks to his piece, Juan Miguel Severo has become the face of the craft and has also cemented the admiration of spoken poetry as an art form.
“G-Shock, Basti Artadi, and Juan Miguel Severo are with us in aspiring to bring the Gen X and millennial generation together.” Ray Gozon, senior marketing manager of Acer Philippines says, “With their help, we are optimistic that we will ultimately be able to succeed.”
With the collaboration of Juan Miguel Severo and Basti Artdi, the event also witnessed the debut of their musical-and-spoken word piece, “Time for Us,”
With Basti Artadi’s blood curdling, roaring voice and Juan Miguel Severo’s inspiring words, the duo delivered a powerful, heart-wrenching performance symbolic of the two generations uniting.
“At the end of the campaign, we want to have brought a better understanding of and between Gen Xers and millennials,” says Gozon, “we want these two generations to see the merits of working together.”
