A watch tells time. A photograph captures a moment in time and freezes it.
Which makes you wonder why it took over a century for a watchmaker and a camera maker to create a product that celebrates the art and science of keeping and freezing time.
D1 Milano, an Italian manufacturer of premium watches, has collaborated with iconic photography brand Kodak to produce the Kodachrome Analog Watch Limited Edition. Developed under a licensing agreement with Kodak, the Kodachrome Analog Watch will be a special collection unveiling this Fall 2020.
This new collection beguiled Filipino watch enthusiasts during the exclusive digital premiere on September 29. CEO and Founder of D1 Milano, Dario Sapallone, and local celebrity and fashion photographer, Jack Alindahao, attended the virtual event and talked about everything they are most passionate about: watches and photography.
The source of inspiration is derived from Kodak cameras, particularly the revolutionary Kodak Brownie Holiday Edition Camera of 1954 to 1962, which introduced the snapshot to the masses during the 20thcentury, thanks to its simplicity and accessibility.
The Kodachrome Analog Watch is named after the first successful color reversal film introduced by Eastman Kodak Company in 1935 and aims to draw a connection to the history of vintage cameras and rollers. The black polycarbonate in contrast to the red and yellow dial reflects the playful soul of this world-famous brand, while staying true to the DNA of D1 Milano.
Stemming from a fusion between irony and design, this collaboration places a strong focus on attention to detail, as showcased by a unique watch dial that references a camera lens. The Polycarbon Kodachrome Analog Watch Limited Edition presents a metal bezel in a black PVD finish, and a 40.5mm diameter case made of polycarbonate material with a soft touch finish. The glass dial of the watch features a convex lens on the date, which is characterized by the lenses of Kodak Cameras.
The packaging for this special edition has also embarked on a complete transformation, in order to recreate the same experience a customer encounters in the world of cameras, while also respecting the identity and design of the Kodachrome Analog Watch. The watch will be contained in a logo-engraved aluminum cylinder; an innovation drawn from past film canisters, and alongside it will be a disposable Kodak Single Use Camera featuring customized D1 Milano graphics.
This model is water-resistant up to 5 ATM.
It will be available from the 24th of September on https://d1milano.com/, and in some selected retailers at a price of $255/€ 230.
