Just in time for the arrival of your 13th month pay, Honda Philippines has launched the latest generation of their iconic Honda Civic. It veers away from the uber sporty styling of the previous model and they packaged it in such a way that every variant is a formidable offering.
The exterior is a steep departure from the styling of the outgoing model. This new one is very minimalist and has a front face that’s reminiscent of the 5th-generation Honda Accord. LED Daytime Running Lights, taillights, and power adjustable side mirrors are standard, while the upper variants get automatic LED headlights, fog lights, power folding side mirrors, and trunk release button.
The RS model gets additional niceties like black accents on the mirror and door handles, auto rain-sensing wipers, LED third brake light, high gloss black spoiler and 18-inch RS wheels in matte black finish.
Inside, there’s a new dashboard design that’s unlike anything we’ve seen in the local market. It has a honeycomb grille that occupies the whole stretch of the dash, subtly housing all the aircon vents behind it. There’s a 7-inch digital display for the driver, 7-inch touchscreen at the center of the dash with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Push Start button, Automatic Climate Control, speed sensing door locks, and rear aircon vents for the mid V and RS trims.
For the RS, it enjoys leather seats with suede inserts, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, sport pedals, 10.2-inch full digital display for the driver, wireless Apple CarPlay in the 9-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and Bose 12-speaker Sound System.
Safety is where the new Honda Civic shines. It has standard amenities like front and side airbags, smart keyless entry, multi-view rear camera, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill start assist, and ISOFIX tethers while the RS gets additional LaneWatch camera, and walk-away auto door lock.
As said before, all Civic models get Honda SENSING as standard and this includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Low Speed Follow, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam, and Lead Car Departure Notification.
Finally, under the hood is a 1.5L DOHC VTEC Turbo engine that makes 176 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, paired to a CVT for all models, though the RS gets paddle shifters and sport mode and the other variants only have Econ and Normal mode. All models also get an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold, multi-link suspension at the back, rear disc brakes and ventilated discs for the front.
So how much is the new Civic? Check out these prices:
S Turbo CVT Honda Sensing – P1,290,000
V Turbo CVT Honda Sensing – P1,498,000
RS Turbo CVT Honda Sensing – P1,690,000
It has definitely gotten more expensive, especially that there’s no cheaper non-turbo model. But for what it has, especially having Honda SENSING across the range, I can’t really complain about the pricing.
