The Mitsubishi Mirage gets the ‘shield’

Mitsubishi’s subcompact Mirage has been one of the brand’s bestselling models since it was launched locally in 2013. Since then, it has admirably retained its top-seller status over eight years despite minimal upgrades, especially on the outside.

Mitsubishi has sold over 370,000 Mirages worldwide, 92,000 of that being sold in the Philippines. That’s almost one of every four units sold worldwide being bought by Filipinos—a testament to the excellent built quality and overall value that the locally made Mirage offers.

Which bodes well for the new Mirage G4. You’ll notice the absence of the term “all-new” here. Kudos to Mitsubishi Motors Philippines for not using this overused description in their press materials. The recently unveiled Mirage is not an all-new model, but it certainly gets more than its fair share of changes that, if you look only at the front, you could be led to think that it is indeed an all-new model.

The smart and practical subcompact sedan now showcases a sportier and more aggressive style that will surely capture the attention of the market—and boost its sales even further.

The front of the new Mirage G4 now sports Mitsubishi’s bold Dynamic Shield design. The whole front end was replaced to achieve this: bigger and more aggressive new grille, more sculpted hood, new slimmer headlights, new bumper, and new foglights.

At the back, the new Mirage G4 gets a sportier new bumper with a more pronounced diffuser and vertical reflectors at both ends.

Along with the exterior upgrades are handsome new 15-inch alloy wheels that blend well with the car’s overall aggressive style.

The new Mirage G4 comes in four colors: Red Metallic (GLX CVT and GLS variants only), Titanium Gray Metallic Cool Silver Metallic, and White Solid (advance firm order for GLX CVT and GLS CVT only).

The new G4 starts at P769,000 for the G4 GLX MT, goes up to P819,000 for the G4 GLX CVT, and tops out at P899,000 for the flagship G4 GLS CVT.

The latest G4 carries over the tried and tested 78ps/100Nm 1.2-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC engine that’s partnered with an INVECS-III CVT, a combination that delivers peppy performance and superb fuel efficiency.

It has a surprisingly spacious interior that can comfortably accommodate four adults—five in a pinch—plus a roomy trunk that can easily take on a weekend’s worth of luggage and cargo for a small family.

The Mirage G4’s compact size allows the driver to easily maneuver through our tight metro streets and parking spaces with consummate ease. The G4 is loaded with modern convenience features such as keyless operation, push start button, electric power steering, automatic climate control, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone link compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. (Keyless operation, push start button, and automatic climate control are only available for the GLS variant.)

On the safety front, the new Mirage G4 is equipped with Mitsubishi’s global Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body, dual airbags, ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Isofix child seat anchors, reverse camera, and auto-off headlights. (ABS, EBD, reverse camera are only available on the GLS CVT.)

To further enhance the G4 experience, MMPC will be adding a free Preventive Maintenance Service (PMS) package up to 2 years or 25,000 km (whichever comes first) with free sanitation service to all customers who will purchase a Mirage G4 from August 28 to November 30, 2021.

With the Mirage G4’s vastly more compelling look, generous comfort and convenience features, and its renowned fuel efficiency, it should further strengthen its appeal to those looking for a value-packed easy-to-own and easy-to-drive small car.
