The Oris Dat Watt Limited Edition: A timepiece made for ocean enthusiasts

Oris’ latest Dat Watt Limited Edition’s key feature is its displaying of the tidal range, which signifies the ecological purpose for which the watch was built. In its latest collaboration, Oris is bringing Change for the Better in support of the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat. This organization works to conserve the Wadden Sea, the world’s largest unbroken tidal flat system.

As mentioned, the highlight of the Dat Watt Limited Edition is its inventive Pointer Moon function, which displays the lunar cycle and tidal range in the Northern Hemisphere. Aesthetically and functionally, the Dat Watt is a diver’s watch based upon Oris’ iconic Aquis model and even has the same standard features – water resistance up to 30 bar/300 meters, a uni-directional rotating bezel for timing dives, and an adjustable metal bracelet. Its stainless steel case with sapphire glass measures a substantial 43.5mm and contains within it a detailed yet uncluttered array of features. The dial color of the Dat Watt Limited Edition is a beautiful mixed palette, with hues ranging from paler to darker blues reminiscent of the vast ocean. Design lines and moon illustrations adorn the piece throughout. A distinctive and central white pointer hand shows the corresponding tidal range via the white outline on the dial. This same hand indicates the waxing and waning of the moon as well.

The power reserve of the Dat Watt’s automatic-winding system is an impressive 38 hours. The Dat Watt uses an Oris 761 movement, and the caseback features an engraved “Dat Watt Limited Edition”. In its usual symbolic exclusivity, Oris is limiting the Dat Watt Limited Edition to just 2,009 pieces produced. This signifies the year that the Wadden Sea was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The timepiece, which was introduced by Oris at Watches and Wonders last month, is now available.
