The World Photography Organization and Sony Philippines are delighted to reveal Donell Gumiran as Philippines’ National Award winner for the Sony World Photography Awards 2021.
The National Awards program is an initiative set up by the World Photography Organization and Sony to support local photographic communities around the world, with 53 countries taking part this year.
Over 330,000 images from 220 territories were submitted to the Sony World Photography Awards 2021 and over 165,000 were entered to the Open competition (from which the National Awards winner was selected).
Donell Gumiran was anonymously selected by judges for his photograph “Looking for water,” entered into the Lifestyle category of the Open competition. Ethiopia’s southern Omo…tribes living in the valley who depend on the Omo river for survival. 62 million Ethiopians lack access to safe water children asking for water bottles in the south. This is everyday life
Photographer by passion. He sees himself as an image-maker who captures and tells a story in a photograph. His photography as an art form, borne from his desire to create on canvas and his professional training in design, Donell is known for his evocative portraits and travel photography. His favorite subjects are those that capture human conditions and emotions in everyday life. His knack for sharing his stories, captured through the lens, has won him international recognition. He is the recipient of numerous awards both local and international. Donell Gumiran is also a photographer & a contributor for Asian Geographic Magazine.
As Philippines’ National Award winner, Donell Gumiran receives Sony digital imaging equipment.
The overall winners in the Student, Youth, Open and Professional competition of the Sony World Photography Awards 2021 will be announced on the 15 April 2021 via the World Photography Organization’s digital and video platforms.
