After much teasing and previews, Kia formally launches their new crossover in the Stonic targeted to those who are driven to do more. It’s a subcompact crossover that has a very attractive price point while providing all the modern amenities wanted by the younger buyers today.
“With a vehicle like this, we hope to be a driving force for you, the Filipino youth, who are on your way to where you want to go,” said Kia Philippines President Manny Aligada.
The Stonic looks ready to pounce on the road anytime thanks to its design that has garnered iF Design and Red Dot design awards. It has projector-type headlamps, a blacked-out tiger-nose grille, roof rails, black cladding all around, and a silver diffuser at the rear bumper that’s just enough to break the monotony.
Inside, the Stonic will greet you with a minimalist layout and all fabric upholstery. Your eyes will be immediately drawn at the center of the dash where the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system resides. It has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that’s available across the line, and puts out the view from the rear camera with dynamic guidelines. Below it is the aircon control and below that are the USB slot and 12V outlet. The steering wheel has audio and bluetooth controls, while the gauges are standard with a 3.5-inch multi-function display at the center.
The top of the line EX variant gets additional premium touches like LED projector headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lamps by the fog light, Smart Entry, Push Start button, Single-Zone Automatic Climate control, and rear sensors. It also has additional safety features like Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, and Immobilizer.
Kia didn’t give figures for the cargo capacity but it’s nice to know that the rear seats can be folded flat or split in a 60:40 configuration for additional storage.
Under the hood is a 1.4L DOHC engine that pushes out 99 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed automatic while the entry level variant has the same engine but lower output at 94 horsepower because it’s paired to a 5-speed manual.
The Stonic has a 5-Year or 160,000km warranty from Kia Philippines and comes in three variants – LX MT, LX AT, and EX AT. Indicated below are their introductory prices that’s good until the end of November, together with their SRP.
