Huawei has added a variety of tablets in its MatePad line up to cater to different age groups. The T10 series focuses on helping students thrive from home with all its features.

Design and build

The MatePad T10 comes in Deepsea Blue, similar to its siblings – MatePad T8 and MatePad. It feels luxurious to the touch. However, the plasticky border on the top belies this. The T10 weighs about 450g with a curved nature allowing for ergonomically safe gripping.

This latest entry-level tablet sports a 9.7-inch 16:10 HD display screen with thick bezels. It offers different screen settings depending on the app being used such as eBook mode to make the screen into black and white and Eye Comfort which is TUV Rheinland Certified to lessen reduce harmful blue light. The sides of the tablet have two speakers that emit quality sound enhanced by Huawei Histen 6.1 software. In addition, the speakers provide 9.1-channel 3D surround-sound support, Bass Booster capability and additional configuration options for audio customization.

The low frequency sound reproduction was impressive for its price point, but the high frequency wasn’t as crystal clear and can be distorted at times.

Processor and OS

Inside the Huawei MatePad T10 is a Kirin 710A chipset that has an octa-core processor. This allows the tablet to run a variety of tasks efficiently yet at a high performance. The user interface EMUI 10.1 simultaneously works with the chipset to provide an intuitive and easy experience. Quality of life features such as Huawei App Multiplier utilize landscape orientation to offer a smart split-screen view of a single app while Dark Mode lets users read more comfortably in dark settings.

Pre-installed applications

Camera

The MatePad T10 has two cameras: a 5MP AutoFocus camera at the rear and a 2MP Fixed Focal selfie camera. Photography modes include professional mode, panorama, HDR, beauty, timing photography and other features.

Battery

The 5100 MAh battery of the MatePad T10 coupled with the 5V/1A charger took 2 hours to reach 50% and a total of a little more than 4 hours to fully charge. Quite similar charging time with the Huawei MatePad. The tablet lasted 3 days with minimal to moderate usage.

Features

The Huawei MatePad T10 is also commendable for its variety of family-friendly apps like Kids Corner, where parents can customize the tablet experience for their children. Kids Corner includes apps like a Recorder, Camera, Kids Painting and Multimedia (a safe area where parents can share with their children photos and videos). Within the settings menu parents can download more apps for their children to use along with the ability to place time limits for them as well.

In terms of child safety, the Kids Corner features the TÜV Rheinland-certified Eye Comfort mode which protects your children’s eyes. In addition, posture and bumpy road alerts notify children to adjust themselves so that they are using the tablet healthily, and it can even pause a session if the child does not physically adapt. Lastly, eBook mode enables the tablet to adjust colors and mimic the look of paper to assist children with their reading experience.

Price and availability

The HUAWEI MatePad T10 is available now from Huawei’s website and other retailers. The 2GB RAM + 32GB model retails for ₱6,999. It comes with an expandable storage option that can carry up to 512GB (sold separately).

Verdict

The MatePad T10’s price point doesn’t stray from its sibling the MatePad T8 which is priced at P5,999 with only an 8-inch screen, while the T10 features a 10-inch and comes with a better processor. Overall with it’s screen size, Kirin 710A processor, immersive audio experience, it’s pretty impressive for its price point.
