The new GoPro Hero 9 goes beyond an action camera

There’s no question that GoPro has a monopoly in the action camera market that they created. However, if you keep making that one thing better, there will come a time there’s nowhere else to go. Luckily GoPro adapted well to the ever-changing landscape and released the GoPro Hero 9 Black.

The first noticeable change for the Hero 9 Black is it will now come with a travel case that can fit the GoPro and a few accessories. They say this is their part for reducing plastic use and will be the new norm moving forward with future cameras.

Now take the GoPro out of that case and you’ll see there’s a bigger screen beside the camera. It’s a 1.4″ non-touch color display with live preview and status modes. It’s a 1:1 ratio screen though so you can only see the center of what’s being taken by the camera. At the back is a larger 2.27″ touch display with touch zoom.

Inside there’s a huge boost to the GoPro. It’s now able to shoot at 5K 30fps, up to 240fps on 1080p, and 20mp photos. Battery life has been improved to 30% more and there’s larger speakers. HyperSmooth and TimeWarp were also further improved to 3.0.

Aside from catering to vloggers and travellers with the new preview screen, GoPro added more versatility to their camera by having 1080p Live Streaming and Webcam mode for a high-resolution live video sharing.

“HERO9 Black reflects our commitment to delivering what our customers have been asking for, including more value for their money,” says GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman.

The GoPro Hero 9 Black will be available for $499.99 or around P24,000.
