With the series now classified as open class, Jaguar has partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering to developed the two cars they’ll enter into the third season of the series.

In the first Formula E series, the original 10 teams had to drive the same car called the Spark-Renault SRT. This time around, teams can field their own cars. The only similarity the cars have are its chassis and battery.

The impact of Jaguar’s decision lies beyond motor racing. Whatever is developed here can impact Jaguar’s development of electric-powered vehicles and technology. Jaguar has yet to announce who will be driving their two cars.

The next season of Formula E will start in October 2016 and end in July 2017. There will be a total of 11 races happening in 10 cities. The season will start in Beijing and end with two rounds in London.
