Last December 16, Uniqlo Philippines gave local media and guests a good look at its latest Star Wars UT Collection, a day ahead of the official Philippines premiere date of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The UT Collection has more than 20 new shirt designs inspired by the J.J. Abrams-helmed franchise installment, with the Resistance Incom T-70 X-wing fighter ships and new characters BB-8, Kylo Ren, and Captain Phasma joining movie and merchandising mainstays like Chewbacca, Darth Vader, R2-D2, C-3PO, the AT-AT Walkers, and the Stormtroopers. The 2015 UT collection, with shirts priced at P790 each, is available at all Uniqlo stores in the Philippines, but only for a limited time.
Upon registration, event attendees were led to the second floor of the Uniqlo SM Aura store to pick out one shirt from the UT Collection. The updated collection was positioned right at the entrance, making it real hard for consumers to miss. Alongside the new tees were Uniqlo’s older Star Wars hoodies in red, black, blue, gray, and white, priced at P1,490 each.
At 8 p.m., the attendees headed to Cinema 1—popcorn and soda in hand—for a private advanced screening of the seventh Star Wars film, with a brief welcome note by Uniqlo Philippines President Geraldine Sia. As for the movie itself, I mostly agree with our spoiler-free movie review. We do have one question for Uniqlo, though: why no women’s collection? The Force is with us, too! And we’re thinking a Rey shirt (with the character in full ass-kicking mode) would be real nice to have.
