Samsung PH unveils selfie-centric Galaxy J5 and J7

If you gathered all the Filipino selfies and laid them out geographically, you’d probably have enough to map most of Metro Manila. We’re a selfie-loving lot. It’s no secret that we were named the selfie capital of the world. It’s with this in mind that Samsung has released its new selfie-centric smartphones here in the Philippines: the Galaxy J5 and J7.

Both entries into the Samsung J Series feature their cameras. The 13-megapixel rear camera takes photos at 4128 x 3096 resolution and videos at 1080p. The 5-megapixel front camera is supplemented by a front-facing LED flash, a rarity in the smartphone market.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 has a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.5GB of RAM underneath the hood. The phone offers 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable to 128GB via a microSD slot. It sports a 5.0-inch Super AMOLED screen with 720p resolution. It has dual-SIM capabilities and a removable 2,600mAh battery. It comes in either white or gold. It is priced at P9,990.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy J7 offers a more midrange menu of specs. The phone has an octa-core Exynos 7580 chip (or a Snapdragon 615 chip) and 1.5GB of RAM. It has 16GB of internal storage which is also expandable up to 128GB via a microSD slot. It has a bigger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, also with 720p resolution. Likewise, the Galaxy J7 has dual-SIM capabilities, but a bigger removable 3,000mAh battery. It also comes in white and gold. It is priced at P12,990.
