Lamborghini reveals new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder via Augmented Reality
  • New model is an open-air celebration of lightweight engineering and V10 power
  • Special traction control system designed for high performance under all conditions
  • Updated features in front and rear differentiate the new model from the 4WD version

Only three days after having restarted manufacturing operations on May 4, Automobili Lamborghini revealed the new Huracán EVO Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder via Augmented Reality on its official website—marking a first in the company’s history.

The new model arrives as an open-air celebration of lightweight engineering and boasts of rear-wheel drive prowess and a specially tuned Performance Traction Control System (P-TCS). Whether if the car’s roof is up or down, daily driving and high-performance fun are accompanied by the signature sound of a naturally aspirated V10 power plant that puts out 610hp and 560Nm of torque. Like its coupe stablemate, the new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder can accelerate from rest to 100 km/h in only 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 324 km/h.

Engineered as a pure driver’s car, the new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder may produce top performance figures but it remains focused on the driver’s skills, as well as the setup of its rear-wheel drive powertrain. This guarantees unfiltered physical feedback and maximum engagement, delivering an exhilarating driving experience via hardware rather than software.

The specially tuned P-TCS traction control system is designed for adrenalin-producing performance in all conditions, consistently delivering torque and assuring traction even as the new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder is emerging from sharp cornering or drifting. The car’s ANIMA button on the steering wheel controls driving modes, with the P-TCS calibrated to suit. In STRADA mode, the focus is on stability and safety in all conditions as the system minimizes rear-wheel slippage and more proactively manages torque delivery on low-grip surfaces. SPORT mode allows for drifting fun as the rear wheels can slide and skate during acceleration, with the system limiting torque output whenever oversteer angles increase rapidly. This lets the driver stabilize and control the car better. CORSA mode optimizes the car’s traction and agility when exiting a corner at high speeds.

The new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder’s aluminum and thermoplastic resin body sits on a lightweight chassis made from aluminum and carbon fiber, resulting in a dry weight of 1,509 kilograms and a weight-to-power ratio of 2.47 kg/hp. The car’s front/rear weight distribution of 40/60, together with double wishbone suspension with overlapped quadrilaterals and passive shock absorbers, lead to optimized driver feedback. Ventilated and cross-drilled steel brakes that stop 19-inch Kari rims fitted with special Pirelli P Zero tires, ensure even more control, as are optional carbon ceramic brakes and 20-inch wheels.

Differentiating the new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder from the earlier released Huracán EVO 4WD Spyder are updated front and rear features, like a splitter and vertical fins within the larger, framed front air intakes, and a unique diffuser incorporated into the rear bumper that’s finished in high-gloss black.

The soft-top roof of the new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder stows within 17 seconds under the rear hood, possible even at speeds of 50 km/h. Available in a range of colors, the soft-top roof perfectly complements the rear-wheel drive car’s body lines and paint options while at the same time ensuring a quiet cockpit conducive to easy conversation and entertainment. The car’s rear window can be electronically opened too regardless if the roof is up or down, functioning as a windshield when it is up, and highlighting the V10 engine’s unique sound when it is down. Two removable lateral wind shields dampen lateral aerodynamic noise in the cabin, permitting conversations even at high speeds.

In the cabin, an 8.4-inch HMI touchscreen placed on the center console controls the car’s various functions, as well as provides comprehensive connectivity for telephone calls, internet access and Apple CarPlay. And underscoring the fact that the new Huracán EVO RWD Spyder is both a driver’s car and a lifestyle choice, the model is available in a virtually limitless color and trim options via Lamborghini Ad Personam. This program allows owners to personalize their car to their exacting tastes. As Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stefano Domenicali puts it; “The Huracán EVO Rear-Wheel Drive Spyder doubles the driving fun, delivering raw driving pleasure with the opportunity to celebrate life outside. The driver is perfectly in touch with Lamborghini’s engineering heritage, experiencing the feedback and engagement from the setup of a rear-wheel drive car where electronic intrusion is minimized, while enjoying the sense of freedom and spirit of life that only open-top driving provides.”
