Private companies are now doing their part to help out as much as they can in our fight against the Covid 19 scourge. These companies along with hospitals and medical facilities bond together to keep our frontline health workers active and fed.
The Lucio Tan Group, Inc. and its affiliates recently partnered with local Filipino fastfood chain Binalot to cater meals and provide comfort and sustenance to the doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers struggling to keep all of us safe and well amidst this pandemic.
The Lucio Tan Group chose Binalot because they wanted Pinoy comfort food which has variety, not just the usual fried chicken meal. Binalot is also very convenient and environment friendly, thanks to the biodegradable banana leaves used as its primary packaging. The company has donated a total of 10,000 meal packages so far to the National Children’s Hospital, Rizal Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, Philippine Heart Center, Novaliches District Hospital, and the Quezon City General Hospital.
Michael Tan, President of the Lucio Tan Group of Companies says that the company was looking for an efficient way to support our frontliners against Covid even after the community quarantine has been lifted. “We have decided to directly support the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, hospital administration staff and even the security guards of different hospitals around Metro Manila who are in the forefront of the battle against Covid”.
“As early as February 2020, our affiliates have been proactively coordinating with authorities to provide emergency support and to assist in providing critical medical and health supplies in its preparation and battle against COVID-19”, he says. “We have also provided urgently-needed equipment such as advanced life cardiac support system equipped ambulances, radiology equipment, respiratory machines, protective suits, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks, protective goggles, shoe covers, boots, disposable gloves, and the like. All of these are vital to reduce the infection risk of our frontline healthcare workers and our uniformed police and military personnel implementing enhanced community quarantine measures”.
“These front liners work tirelessly everyday since the quarantine started and since the number of Covid patients under investigation (PUI), patients under monitoring (PUM) and the Covid-19 positive patients have started to increase in the various hospitals around Metro Manila. Needless to say, they need all the support we can possibly give”.
Judee Morente, Operations Manager of Binalot Fiesta Foods says the doctors and nurses are always pleased and surprised when Binalot delivers the meals. “Sabi nila ito lang daw ang nakakapagpangiti sa kanila araw araw, and they look forward to the food that they will be receiving for that day. Parang laro pa nga daw na hinuhulaan nila kung ano ang dadating na pagkain for that day,” she adds.
Tan discloses they will continue to support the frontliners as the days progress because they need all the support they can get from all sectors. “Recently, other countries have been trying to recruit doctors and nurses from the Philippines, They have even posted this recruitment notices on their official embassy websites in an effort to lure healthcare workers to help fight their own Covid crisis in their home countries. We need to support our own front liners to keep them in the country and one way of doing this is to keep them fed and happy. That is the least we can do”.
