Marvel fans who attended this year’s AsiaPOP Comiccon held at the SMX Convention Center were in for a treat with Hall M. Sneak peeks, trailers, and previews of new content from Marvel were presented by Stephen Wacker, vice president for Creative Development under Marvel Television and New Media. While these are not entirely new announcements exclusive to Hall M attendees, this is a roundup of Marvel’s latest offerings for their fans and a refresher for those who haven’t been updated with what Marvel has been cooking up recently.
COMICS
The Life of Captain Marvel. With the Captain Marvel solo film coming out next March, this brand new comic series is the perfect guide for any MCU fan who would want to know the origin story of Carol Danvers herself. Written by best-selling author Margaret Stohl and drawn by artists Carlos Pacheco and Marguerite Sauvage, the series dwells on Danvers’ life story from being a young girl in Boston to being the all-powerful heroine she is now. The first issue of five was released just last July 18 and the next one will be released on August 15—which means you could still catch up on the beloved captain’s all-new origin series.
Infinity Wars Prime. The first issue of the new series sees Thanos about to embark on his journey to gather the Infinity Stones—which are on Earth and in possession of heroes like Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Doctor Strange. That is until the Titan gets beheaded by a masked figure called Requiem. The new series is written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by Mike Deodato.
Return of Wolverine. It’s probably common knowledge that nobody ever really dies permanently in the Marvel Universe. The title itself is pretty much self-explanatory, and in this series Wolverine will have more powers, including his claws heating up. The first issue—written by Charles Soule and drawn by Steve McNiven—of the five-issue miniseries will be released on September 19. Starting with Death of Wolverine and then with Hunt for Wolverine, The Return of Wolverine is the final installment of the trilogy.
Ghost Spider. The Spider-Gwen series recently ended last July 18, but Gwen Stacy will soon return under a new moniker—Ghost Spider. The new series will be headed by writer Seanan McGuire, artist Rosi Kämpe, and cover artist Bengal, though no release dates have been announced yet.
Spider-Geddon. The sequel to the Spider-Verse series in 2014 will see yet again the team-up of different versions of Spider-Man and other spider heroes from different universes and storylines. Spider-Geddon will be headed by the writer Christos Gage and artist Jorge Molina and will be released starting September 26.
The Superior Octopus. From writer Christos Gage, artist Mike Hawthorne, and cover artist Travis Charest, the series will tells the story of Otto Octavius and his struggles as he adjusts having a hybridized clone body and his heroic pursuits done through rather unconventional and ruthless ways.
Fantastic Four. Marvel’s first family finally returns with a new series after two years. The new series will see Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and Thing fighting a new villain. It is written by Dan Slott and drawn by Sara Pichelli, and will be released starting August 8.
GAMES
Marvel Powers United VR. Teaming up with Oculus, this new virtual reality game lets you become your favorite Marvel hero.
Marvel: Future Fight. Having been requested by fans for so long, Deadpool has now been added to the character lineup of Marvel: Future Fight, including Domino and Cable.
Marvel’s Spider-Man. Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man is features Peter Parker, Mary Jane, Miles Morales, and an assortment of Spider-Man’s most memorable villains, including Electro, Rhino, Scorpion, Vulture, Shocker, and Silver Sable. It will be released on September 7 exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 4.
Marvel Battle Lines. Marvel’s collaboration with Nexon has brought about this new card game. The game will feature a variety of cards, with character backstories on each one. There will also be an original single player story written by Alex Irvine as well as real-time multiplayer battles.
TV Series
Cloak and Dagger season 2. Aside from a teaser of the series’ next episode, a teaser for its recently announced second season was shown, dropping hints of a new character coming our way.
Marvel Rising. This new animated series will feature Ghost Spider (Dove Cameron) as she proves her innocence, and teams up with Ms. Marvel (Kathreen Khavari), Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), Quake (Chloe Bennet), and Patriot (Kamil McFadden) along the way.
