Meet Hublot Big Bang Referee, a $2,500 Wear OS smartwatch

After Google rebranded Android Wear to Wear OS platform, we’re expecting to see a fresh wave of smartwatches running on the company’s wearable platform. The first one out of the gate is from Hublot, a Swiss luxury watchmaker whose parent company LVMH also owns Tag Heuer. The company just launched the Big Bang Referee 2018 World Cup Russia, a US$5,200 Wear OS smartwatch. With Hublot as the official timekeeper for the tournament, it comes as no surprise that this is the smartwatch they developed.
There will only be 2,018 units of these made and some will be given to the referees for use during matches. It’s connected to what’s called “goal-line technology,” which is described as “an electronic video assistance system for refereeing which follows all the trajectories of the ball and determines for certain if the ball did or did not entirely cross the goal line.”

Aside from this, the Big Bang Referee will notify you if a match is about to start (15 minutes before, to be exact) as well as player changes, whenever goals are made, and red/yellow cards. During games, the Big Bang Referee will also have a special watch face that displays things like the current score, player substitutions, number of cards/goals, and the match time.
It features a 49mm titanium body, six H-separated screws along the bezel, and Kevlar insert. And it runs on a dual-core Intel Atom Z34XX processor running at 1.6GHz with 512MB RAM. It comes with a 400 x 400 AMOLED display and 410mAh battery rated for one day’s use. It is also water resistant for up to 50 meters. The Big Bang Referee will go on sale starting May 1st at Hublot shops.
