These days, the midrange smartphone segment is more competitive than ever, with brands packing flagship-level features into more accessible devices. Enter the POCO X8 Pro, a smartphone that promises powerful performance, a vibrant display, long battery life, and capable cameras — all without the premium price tag. This time, it adds a bold twist with the new Yellow variant, a colorway that’s designed to turn heads. But beyond its impressive specs on paper and striking new style, how does it hold up in everyday use? Read on to find out.

Design and build

One of the standout features of the POCO X8 Pro is its design. The new yellow color steers away from the usual neutrals and goes for something bold with a racetrack-inspired motif. It gives the phone a lot of personality, making it ideal for those who want their device to reflect their style. This adds a fresh option alongside the Black, White, and Mint Green colorways already available.

The dynamic RGB light surrounding the dual-ring camera deco is a nice touch that completes its personalized and tech-forward aesthetic.

The device feels premium in hand, though it leans slightly on the heavier side at 201.47g and 8.38mm thickness. It also comes with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings for protection in day-to-day use. It’s built with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i on the front, an aluminum frame, and a glass back for comprehensive durability.

Display

Up front, the POCO X8 Pro features a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. With everything combined, it delivers an immersive viewing experience with rich colors, while rendering deep blacks, and excellent contrast. Whether I was streaming on Netflix or browsing through social media, the visuals looked sharp and pleasing to the eye.

Doubling down on the entertainment experience, the display also supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, enhancing contrast and color depth for supported content.

Navigating the interface, scrolling through social media, and switching between apps also felt fluid and responsive. Viewing outdoors under direct sunlight was also easy, thanks to the display’s 3,500nits of peak brightness.

Thankfully, I wasn’t too alarmed by my long screen time, thanks to its eye protection features, including 3840Hz PWM dimming, TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light and flicker-free viewing, and Circadian Friendly certification.

Camera

Going back to the rear, the POCO X8 Pro is equipped with a dual-camera setup led by a 50MP (f/1.5) main shooter that uses a Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS. This is paired with an 8MP (f/2.2) ultrawide lens.

In real-world use, the main camera does most of the heavy lifting. It effortlessly produces detailed and vibrant shots in well-lit environments while maintaining consistency across different shooting conditions. With a solid dynamic range, it is able to retain highlights and shadows in most shots, even in tricky and harsh outdoor lighting.

Low-light performance is acceptable, though you may notice some slight noise in darker scenes. That said, it still manages to produce usable shots for casual use and social media posting.

Flipping it over, the 20MP front camera proves its prowess in good lighting, showcasing facial features naturally with good amount of detail. However, group selfies in low light take a minor hit with reduced clarity in background subjects. Nonetheless, the results remain more than passable for social media posting.

Performance

Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. In my experience, it delivers strong and consistent performance across various tasks — from launching apps and multitasking to navigating the UI. My usual heavy worldload involves shooting for extended hours, and the device holds its own well, with every interaction remaining smooth throughout even with several apps running in the background.

Meanwhile, gaming is where the device really shines; it is able to run titles like Mobile Legends without noticeable hitches or frame drops. That said, it

Battery and charging

The POCO X8 Pro packs a large 6,500mAh battery that comfortably lasts a full day on a single charge with light to moderate use. For me, this means scrolling through social media, streaming on Netflix or YouTube, taking photos and videos, and messaging throughout the day. With lighter use, I’d say it can even stretch up to two days.

When you run out of juice, you can power it up with the 100W HyperCharge and wait less than 50 minutes to get it from empty to fully charged.

Verdict

Overall, the POCO X8 Pro delivers where it matters most. From my short stint with the device, I was able to experience how it excels in performance, renders a beautiful display, powers through the day with its long battery life, and tops it off with fast charging, making it a compelling choice for gamers, content creators, and everyday users alike.

As for the cameras, the POCO X8 Pro is more than capable of capturing sharp and vibrant photos in numerous lighting conditions. It delivers reliable results for everyday photography and content creation, rounding out an already well-balanced smartphone.

At PHP 31,999, if you’re looking for a smartphone that prioritizes speed, endurance, and overall value, the POCO X8 Pro proves it’s a strong contender in its price range.
