Gaming laptops are obviously excellent for gamers who want to take their sessions on-the-go. However, it’s not only gamers who are able to get the most out of these devices. They are often used by content creators as well.
If you fall under either user base (or maybe even both), then consider the ASUS ROG Strix G16. It has variants with numerous CPU and GPU options so you choose one that fits your needs and budget.
A subtle design with a pinch of attitude

At first glance, the ROG Strix G16 has a clean and sleek finish thanks to the Eclipse Grey colorway of the chassis. But upon further inspection, you find subtle elements that are clues to what kind of device this really is – a gaming powerhouse.
On the back cover, you will find the ROG logo that stamps the true nature of the laptop. To the left of the logo, there is a diagonal streak with the phrase ‘For those who dare.’ More subtle ROG design elements can be found once you open the laptop as well.
Being a gaming laptop, the ROG Strix G16 is quite the big boy. It weighs 2.5kg and is approximately 3.04cm thick. But then again, this is expected with all that performance packed into a portable form factor.
Colorful and complete

The keyboard features a 75% layout sprinkled with RGB — who doesn’t love RGB, right? I especially love how the space bar and the QWERASDF keys have a translucent finish, which looks fantastic when the light is shining through. Dedicated hotkeys can also be found on the upper left portion of the keyboard, while the Copilot key makes a cameo as well.

You get a large touchpad, but let’s be honest — if you’re gaming, you’ll probably use a mouse instead, which the laptop comes with: an ROG Impact Gaming Mouse, to be exact. There is also more RGB close to the bottom case, just for good measure.

Furthermore, you get a full suite of I/O ports. The device comes with a LAN port, two USB-C ports (both support DisplayPort, while one of them can be used for power delivery), an HDMI 2.1 port, a DC port, an audio combo jack and two USB-A ports.
Lastly, the webcam is a 1080p FHD camera. While I didn’t use it for work, I did need the camera to plan my best friend’s bachelor’s party, and I was surprised at how clear and handsome I looked compared to everyone else (sorry, no pics for proof).
Immersive and game-ready display
The display has a 16-inch IPS panel and features an FHD+ resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, 300nits brightness, and a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Multimedia consumption was enjoyable and immersive despite the lack of an OLED screen.
To complete the gaming experience, the display comes with a refresh rate of 165Hz and a response time of 3ms. Frames win games, am I right? Dolby Vision is supported on this display, as well as Adaptive-Sync for enhanced viewing and gaming.
When it comes to the audio, the laptop is built with dual Dolby Atmos-powered downward firing speakers. No headphones, no problem. You can still enjoy the audio experience of your games with the speakers. Two-way AI noise cancellation on the other hand allows for less distractions while in a call or when communicating while in game.
Under the hood

Powering the ROG Strix G16 is the AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 laptop GPU. It also features 512GB of storage and 16GB of DDR5 RAM. Multitasking is easy. The real power can be seen in gaming and creative tasks that require heavier loads.
In terms of gaming, you can play titles like Cyberpunk 2077 with the ultra graphical preset with ease (ray tracing turned off). With ray tracing presets, you’re able to get a stable and playable gaming experience (with 1920×1200 resolution). Here are some benchmarks we ran in-game:
Preset: Ultra

Preset: Ray Tracing: Ultra

Preset: Ray Tracing: Overdrive

We also ran Cinebench R23 to perform CPU benchmarks. These were the results:
Multi Core: 28,585
Single Core: 1,842

Long story, short: Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or a leader in the creative field, the ROG Strix G16 has got you covered. Running AAA games, gaming with high frames on competitive eSports titles, 4K video editing, and 3D modeling and rendering are just some of the tasks you can accomplish with the laptop.
When performing these heavier loads, you can expect a rise in temperature. The ROG Strix G16 is equipped with a suite of cooling solutions – full surround vents, a full-width heatsink, and multiple heatpipes to name a few.
Power up for your battles
The ROG Strix G16 is powered by a 90Wh battery. In case you need to stay plugged in, ROG claims you can charge from 0-50% in 30 minutes while using the 280W power adapter. USB Type-C charging is also supported up to 100W.
Whether you’re bunking in for a long session, or turning public spaces into your own gaming den, you can stay plugged in to lock in.
Inclusions just for you
With every purchase of the ROG Strix G16, customers will receive an ROG Impact Gaming Mouse for added precision, an ROG backpack to take your battle on-the-go, and a Type-C charging adapter for added flexibility.
For work, you can utilize Microsoft Office Home 2024 and Microsoft 365 Basic. For gaming, you get Xbox Game Pass for 3 months; a comprehensive library of some of the best games at your fingertips.
