Four months after JAC Philippines previewed at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) the all-new JS6 compact SUV and the all-new JS8 PRO mid-size SUV, these vehicles are now available to the Philippine motoring public at JAC dealerships. To usher in the two SUVs’ entry into the local market, JAC Philippines, under Astara, organized a ride-and-drive on August 30 with media members and content creators, providing them the opportunity to experience the value-for-money features of the two SUVs in a motoring lifestyle atmosphere befitting the two models.
The occasion also celebrated JAC Motors’ 60th anniversary last May, from its beginnings as the Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Factory in 1964, to its stature as a maker of passenger and commercial vehicles that have earned the trust of over 10 million customers worldwide.
Before the participants embarked on their trip to Angeles City in Pampanga from the JAC Manila Bay dealership, they were warmly welcomed by officers of Astara Philippines led by its Brand Head Tonette Lee.
Lee announced that this activity would spearhead JAC’s push into the Philippine market, which entails opening new dealerships with seven model introductions by the end of 2024.
“As we continue to grow, we’re excited about the journey ahead. Our network has expanded to six dealerships, with more to come, ensuring that we’re closer to our customers, wherever they may be. Our lineup features models tailored to the diverse needs of our customers. Whether you’re looking for a subcompact SUV like the new JS2 Pro or the new JS4, a robust pickup like the T8 Pro and the soon-to-be-launched T9, or even an exciting new venture into electric vehicles with the Ytterby hatchback that will be formally introduced in September, this year, we have something for everyone,” Lee said.
She added, “We believe in providing value that goes beyond the sticker price, offering a driving experience that is enriching and fulfilling. Because at JAC Motors, we know that you, your family, your dreams, and your journeys all deserve nothing but the best.”
Jessica Ji, Regional Director for Asia Pacific of JAC International, reiterated that the Philippine market has become a key growth area that could help determine the next chapters of JAC Motors’ future.
“We can pinpoint certain dates that are important in JAC Motors’ 60-year history. The first, of course, was its founding on May 20, 1964. The second would be its first production of the JAC truck in April 1968. Then there’s June 1990, when it produced China’s first bus-specific chassis. Its first MPV rolled out on March 18, 2002. On January 17, 2008, JAC Motors debuted its first entry into the passenger-car market, and by 1st quarter of 2024, JAC Motors became part of the local subsidiary of the Astara Group, one of the world’s leading mobility providers. Now, we can add to this list JAC Motors’ official public debut in MIAS on April 4, 2024,” Ji enumerated.
“The timing for JAC Philippines’ entry is just right, as the local mobility market is poised to hit all-time highs in vehicle sales this year. I believe JAC Philippines, which offers vehicles that are reliable and stylish, with a value proposition that’s inclusive of even more Filipinos, can get a sizable portion of that market,” Ji stressed.
The media participants were then briefed on the two SUVs, pointing out the value of their features to end-users.
The all-new JS6: For that big step up
For the all-new JS6 compact SUV, its overall characteristic as JAC Motors’ most advanced and innovative model, but with a value proposition that trumps competitors in its segment, was highlighted. Its turbocharged 1.5-liter, direct-injection inline-4 gasoline engine, mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission, is capable of producing 182hp at 5500rpm and 300Nm of torque at 1,800 to 3,500rpm while still being fuel efficient. This power, responsiveness, and economy are especially handy in stop-and-go city traffic.
Complementing its ability to handle city traffic is its exterior design and styling cues—exuding elegance infused with functionality. The 160-mm ground clearance, 20-degree approach and 19-degree departure angles give enough room to avoid scraping over village humps, curbs, parking stops, and that occasional surprise pothole. Power-folding side mirrors, panoramic sunroof and electric tailgate add to that convenient, streamlined mobility in the narrow, busy streets of the cities.
Inside the JS6 is where the no-holds-barred influx of innovation and technologies happens. Two 12.3-inch displays provide all the drive and infotainment data in one glance, keeping the driver’s eyes on the road, and even the rear passengers can keep tabs on their playlists on the center touchscreen via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plush leather upholstery, electrically adjustable front seats, wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control, 360-degree camera and 60:40 split-folding rear seats make the ride more comfortable and convenient even if the trips get longer, or traffic jams get heavier.
The JS6 is generous in safety, as well, for its six airbags, ISOFIX child-restraint anchors and an Electronic Stability Program. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) provides another layer of driver-occupant safety, with the inclusion of Automatic Emergency Brake System, Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring and Intelligent Remote Light Switch.
Given its looks, capabilities, and features, the new JS6 is tailor-fit for the driven and active city-dwelling professional or mid-level manager who’s quickly moving a big step up the corporate management ladder, and about to take on much bigger responsibilities in his or her career and family.
The all-new JS8 PRO: Always room for more
The all-new JS8 PRO, on the other hand, is JAC Motors’ entry into the 7-seater mid-size SUV. It offers the same elegant, modern exterior design of the JS6, only that there’s much more space for even more family members and friends to enjoy.
It’s powered by the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, but mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission in order to produce the same power and torque outputs to that of the JS6.
The JS8 PRO offers 418 liters of cargo space, which can go up to 2,153 liters when the third-row seats are folded down. There’s more than enough space to bring an entire family, along with extended relatives, and haul their luggage, as well. This generosity of space would sit well with Filipinos’ penchant to make long road trips a family affair. The standard electric tailgate and easy-open trunk makes loading heavy items onto the cargo area easy and fast. The panoramic sunroof adds to the spacious feel inside the cabin. Front passengers get electrically adjustable seats and a wireless charging pad, while independent front and rear climate controls can adjust to every occupant’s comfort levels.
Like the JS6, the JS8 PRO comes with the dual 12.3-inch digital screens—one being the full LCD gauge cluster, while the other is the central touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that also displays the view from the 360-degree panoramic camera.
The JS8 PRO also integrates the ADAS technology, particularly the Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Door Opening Warning, complementing the standard safety features of the front, side, and curtain airbags, and the ISOFIX child-restraint anchors.
For its space, looks, and features, the new JS8 PRO is for the family man (or woman) who values his or her time with the family as much as the time in the office. He or she won’t pass up on a great opportunity to go out somewhere new, or familiar, with the family every weekend or holidays. And a JS8 PRO owner certainly would look forward to going home from work or a vacation bringing a big surprise or “pasalubong” for the entire family.
Surprisingly accessible price points
The JS6 retails for P1.380 million, while the JS8 PRO sells for P1.350 million. The JS6 comes in five colors: Pearl White, Carmenere Red, Moonstone Blue, Stylish Black and Obsidian Grey. The JS8 PRO, on the other hand, is available in Pearl White, Carmenere Red, and Stylish Black.
For all the innovations, features, drive technologies, and safety systems packed into these two SUVs, JAC Philippines has ensured that all these are made more accessible to more Filipinos, thus enhancing the vehicles’ value proposition. These vehicles come with a 5-year warranty or 150,000 kms, whichever comes first, and a 24/7 Emergency Roadside Assistance for the first year for further peace of mind.
