First impressions: realme C63

It’s official – the rainy season is upon us. While the scorching heat may be slowly subsiding, there are new pressing issues that need to be dealt with such as being able to take photos and posting on social media while your smartphone’s screen is damp from the downpour.

Fine, that may be an exaggeration. However, a weatherproof smartphone is still more than essential this time of year. The realme C63 promises to be an all-weather smartphone that is built to last. Let’s hope it lives up to the billing.

What’s in the box?

Inside the box, the realme C63 comes with the usual suspects. Included inside the packaging is a quick start guide, a safety guide, a Type-C charging cable with charging brick and a SIM card ejector pin. A plastic phone case is also one of the inclusions.

Design and build

The realme C63 comes in two different color options — Jade Green and Leather Blue, the latter being the unit I will be testing. It’s a subtle and clean design, but the leather finish gives off an elegant aesthetic which I’m truly a fan of.

The smartphone also features a slim and lightweight form factor. It’s only 7.74mm thin and weighs around 191g, with the Leather Blue colorway being approximately 2g heavier than the other option.

Display

For the visuals, the device is equipped with a 6.7-inch HD+ display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. Its Rainwater Smart Touch feature greatly contributes to the phone’s weatherproof capabilities, which is something I’m quite eager to test out.

Camera

For the main shooter, the realme C63 comes with a 50MP AI camera. The opposite side, on the other hand, features an 8MP selfie camera. We’ll see how both shooters perform — something to look out for in the full review.

Under the hood

A Unisoc T612 Processor powers the realme C63. It’s coupled with up to 256GB of storage and up to 8GB of RAM with another 8GB of Dynamic RAM Extension. No need to worry about all your running applications in the background.

Battery and charging

The realme C63 draws its power from a 5,000mAh battery. It also supports 45W SUPERVOOC charging. Supposedly you can achieve a full charge from a totally drained battery in around 79 minutes. Battery life and charging will be tested further for the full review.

Final thoughts

Should the realme C63 perform as advertised, then this can definitely be a solid option for an all-around and all-weather smartphone. These are qualities we look for in entry-level smartphones especially since gone are the days when we overpay for devices just for the sake of doing so. Let’s hope the realme C63 exceeds expectations.
