8 things you need to know about the all-new Hyundai Kona

1. The Hyundai Kona subcompact crossover made its global debut in Korea in 2017, before landing on Philippine soil a year later. It has since garnered numerous awards globally. That first-gen Kona had a successful run in the Philippine market from 2018 until 2022, creating a three-year gap before the all-new second-gen version returned to Philippine shores this June 2025.

    2. The new Kona is still a subcompact gasoline crossover, but now comes only as a self-charging hybrid (HEV). It retains its character as a vehicle for the young and active lifestyle, but now comes with new features and conveniences.

    3. The all-new Kona retains several styling cues that distinguished its predecessor, especially in the use of the sleek, futuristic-looking DRLs and bumper-mounted headlamps (Hyundai was a pioneer in this now often-used styling treatment). The difference is that the DRLs are now one single full-width strip, similar to the execution in the Stargazer and Staria. The Hybrid Premium variant comes with 18-inch, two-tone alloy wheels and boldly angular wheel arch cladding (reminds one of those in the Lamborghini Urus). It also comes with a roof rail and power sunroof.

    4. The new Kona is powered by a 1.6-liter hybrid drivetrain, mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with 141 ps and 144 Nm of torque. This is paired with Smart Regenerative Braking and e-Motion Drive for smooth performance, enhanced fuel economy, and a true electrified driving feel.

    5. Inside the Kona is a contemporary cabin featuring a driver-centric cockpit with a floating dual 12.3-inch panoramic instrument cluster and infotainment display, electronic shift-by-wire system and 8-way power adjust driver’s seat. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard as well as a wireless charging pad with a built-in cooling fan and Type-C USB ports. Front row passengers enjoy an open console storage with rotating cup holders for better convenience, while second-row seats fold flat to provide flexible cargo space of up to 1,241 liters. A Smart Power Tailgate can be customized according to the user’s preferred height opening for greater convenience and ease of use.

    6. The now much-appreciated ADAS features come standard, thanks to Hyundai SmartSense, Hyundai’s suite of advance driver assistance systems that identify potential hazards for added peace of mind. Hyundai SmartSense includes Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, among others. It’s also equipped with Blind Spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor for optimal outward visibility.

    7. The Kona is available in two variants: the Kona 1.6 HEV GLS priced at Php1,528,000 and the Kona 1.6 HEV Premium at Php1,688,000. It comes in 5 colors: Neoteric Yellow, Atlas White, Abyss Black Pearl, Cyber Gray, and Meta Blue Pearl.

    8. With the all-new Kona, Hyundai expands its hybrid line following the hybrid variant introductions of the Santa Fe, Tucson, and Elantra.
